moving to Hawaii in late fall or early winter. :D But I've been looking into Bora Bora. If I lived there, I would abandon most of my technology. I would have one compact but powerful computer that does everything, and my speakers I think. I don't think I'd want anything else. Ahh, just imagine rolling out of bed, taking a few steps to the door, and diving into warm, blue water. Ahhh. I'm going to see if I can find a job doing IT for a hotel or something like that. Hawaii is a little easier job-wise since I'd still be in the US, but if you look at some pictures of anywhere in French Polynesia, it becomes clear that there is not a better spot on this planet. Here is a rather more lofty plan of mine. Hawaii-Bora Bora-Moorea-Papua New Guinea(sp?)-Guam-Malta-Azores-then perhaps some of the gulf islands-then back to Hawaii. I have this tropical island thing buzzing about in my head now, so I'm going to have to go to as many as possible. I can't see any reason not to.

any of these besides Mercer
But one I have been to that wasn't mentioned on this list is Cozumel. Quite the nice island I might add.

... I'm open to all tropical islands with warm clear blue water. The list above is just the ones I'm already set on, and a couple silly ones for good measure.

Guam would also be easy as it is the US as well. But I don't know if it is really your cup of tea. It's kinda like if you took Burien and slapped it down on a tropical island, then added a 6 block stretch of high rise hotels. Nice place to visit but I wouldn't want to live there.

Hawaii is much more livable I believe. It is also considerably more expensive. But Honolulu is a major city and there are lots of jobs there. The weather would be nice but the standard of living most likely lower than what you are used to.

Papua New Guniea is extremely in the stone age. You might not even get electricity, and I hear the food ain't so good as well.

You definitely need to visit any of those crazy unknown islands before you pack up and head over there. Some you just wouldn't be able to live at. Forget about internet in a lot of them as well.

Remember, it isn't as nice and simple for us as Americans to just up and decide to live in a different country. Countries don't like to let people in and take there jobs. Visas are a hassle around most of the world.

BTW Okinawa is a tropical island with clear blue water and white sand beaches. That might be where I would choose to move in this context.

If we are really talking about a world scale - the beaches don't get much whiter and prettier than Australia. Look at the Gold Coast in North Eastern Australia. Again, hard to immigrate tho. Take the Australian Immigration Qualification test. I didn't qualify pretty much no matter what I did.

I hear Taiwan is pretty livable.

American Samoa might be worth a gander.

We'll talk more soon.

I didn't mean to live at all of them. Establish base in Hawaii and then travel all of the nice little islands then go back. Thanks for the tip on Guam though. I can visit Burien here, so I'll scratch that one off. Image Hawaii is also my living default because of the visa thing. Bora Bora, Tahiti, and Moorea are my personal choices for if "I can manage it" living areas. If I was in Bora Bora, I wouldn't care about internet, or other modern conveniences. I'm easily adapted to simple life. If the weather was always like it was when we were at second beach, I would be able to live there too :D I was a bit, umm augmented yesterday morning, so the Costa Rica thing was a slip. I was just thinking of the blue water factor at that point, while I sit in the black cave which is this lab. I had edited the poll and your comment [TEE HEE HEE] But silliness acknowledged. The hotel IT thing is just a maybe as well. I'm actually getting the Peter Givens syndrome, and might look into other types of employment. I have a really strange set of skills, but the things I know about I know pretty well. We'll see. As long as I make enough money to be comfortable, which depends entirely on where I live, I'll be happy. If I'm living on a small beautiful island, then I need less money. All I need in such a circumstance is food, and a living space. I'll have just enough technology to watch movies, play the occasional game, and listen to music. I'd need lots of books too, but those aren't exactly hard to get anywhere. I have no problem spending part of my time working, and the rest in the water and relaxing. :shades:
