Doom 3 Gold!

Post by R3C »

DOOM 3 GOLD! 10:31 am - Jeff Tom - games: action (0 comments)
id CEO Todd Hollenshead has announced Doom 3 is gold, set to be out for retailers on August 3 as we reported first and at all stores by August 5, though some earlier. Enjoy!

Yes, this is the official word that DOOM 3 has been code released and has been approved for manufacturing! It won't be long now until the anticipation ends and the PH34R begins ;-) We literally just hung up with Activision and have confirmed that our latest release candidate has been mutually approved and is finally GOLD. Thanks to everyone for their patience (yeah right! =) and for everyone at id, Activision and our numerous partners for helping us create what I believe is absolutely the best game we have ever made.
So, the next question is release dates. Retailers in the States will be allowed to pick up games starting at 12:01 AM on August 3rd. The official street date is actually August 5th in the U.S.A., but some of your favorite stores will probably have it early for those of you who have to have it first. Check with your local retailer for that information.

Internationally, the game will take a few more days to make it to the store shelves. The UK will probably get it first, on or about August 6th. Everywhere else will probably be Friday, August 13th (que Twilight Zone Theme) or close to that date, with just a few exceptions (e.g. Russia and Poland). This isn't because we don't have love for you folks outside the U.S., but the localization and manufacturing process takes a bit longer outside the U.S. where we will have JVC run 24/7 to get the units built. I guess the European manufacturers prefer to give their employees nights and weekends off. Go figure!

The champagne is flowing here at id and smiles abound! I'll update again with some DOOM 3 preparation tips (not what hardware to buy - you'll have to wait for a programmer for that sort of thing). In the meantime, I want to see those "DOOM 3 GOLD!!!" threads set new records for swamping message board servers, destroying productivity, and post counts ;-)

Recapping today's headlines....DOOM 3 GOLD!!!

WWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!! Released to manufacturing on time! Glad I pre-ordered it. Anyone read that review yet?

DUST PARTICLES IN THE FLASHLIGHT BEAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm prepared this time around. When Doom came out I was running a 386 DX40 with 8MB and a Fahrenheit 1280. It ran pretty well, but not tip-top. The system I have now, is like if I had had a 486 DX2 66 with an Orchid Kelvin card and 16MB of ram!!!! WOOOOOOOOO!!!!

If I remember correctly when Doom came out it was the only game (I knew of) that required more than 4MB of RAM (5MB). I was sitting pretty with 8MB (486 SX25) but no one else I knew could run it. I know my system isn't the top of the heap right now, but I think it should be good enough for this generation of games.

It would run on 4MB. Though I'm sure it was pretty tricky for anyone with a lot of TSRs running. We even had it running decently on McNevin's 386SX40 with 4MB.

Your system is more than adequate to play it with lots-o-detail I'd imagine. They designed it with the GeForce 3 as the minimum if I'm not mistaken. In fact, I bought your system (before I sold it to you (though, I had 1 GB of PC3200)) with Doom 3 in mind. Besides, all you'd need to do to make it quite a bit faster is replace the MB with an i865. ($90) Dual channels of RAM make a difference, plus you'd be able to bump up your FSB a bit.

I was going to do that just now, but I also forgot it. Do you know your Comcast password? If so, just have it mailed to you, then go to www.comcast.net and click on the mail link. It was something simple, and recognizable to us, but now I can't think of it for some reason.

Order a copy with rocks. Just send EBGames a bunch of rocks. That'll work. I know it will. Try it. You'll see.

Yes, it was good! :D

Ahhh, the Fahrenheit 1280. I remember stealing its RAM chips and putting them on my GUS (After I got my Tseng ET4000W32P) Wooooo!!!! Had a Kelvin in some computer I had. I think the Tseng ended up being a little faster. In fact, I don't remember who made the chip for the Kelvin, but it might have been Tseng. The Fahrenheit was an S3 chip, (when S3 was among the best still.)

I remember I had your orchid for awhile too... and several whacked out cirrus logic cards. An et4000 and that groovy vesa local bus et6000 or somthing like that...

Took me fracking forever to convince the folks to get me vga in the first place, nevermind how long it too for me to actually get a vga monitor that worked.

Thats why i spent 500$ on my first 17" monitor, i wanted to have the best damn 17" viewsonic made.

Kevins mom and dad "What is so bad about EGA, it works fine for what we need it to do" DOH!

EGA!!!!!! Wooooo!!!! I had the best EGA setup. I played all of my Sierra games in glorious EGA. Actually, the 16 color games looked better in EGA than VGA. (EGA monitors for some reason seemed to have a lot higher color intensity.) At least the ones I had... Good stuff. I remember playing Hero's Quest, Codename Iceman, Omnicron Conspiracy, King's Quest 3, etc. WOOOOOO!!!!!

That reminds me, I need to play Omnicron Conspiracy sometime soon.

Funny thing though, that EGA monitor we did have was a real nice one. It played a mean monkey island. It even lived after i spilled my cereal in the vent. :shifty:

Yes. We don't want children taking on the role of a human marine, killing evil demons. It's satanic. :eviltongue:
