Host Shopping

Post by enderzero »

I think it has come time to make a move. My account is due next month and there seem to be a good amount of competitors out there offering better deals.

beeeph, sparkle - who are you guys using?

Here is what I am looking for in the perfect hosting company:

PRICE: $90-100 yearly
DATA: minimum 1GB storage, 20GB transfer
BASICS: unlimited Email, unlimted Subdomains, unlimited Forwarders
DB: mySQL, at least 5 dbs, PHP myAdmin access
SW: Preferably Fantastico Deluxe package but at least phpBB, cpanel, good webmail, etc.
RELIABILTY: 99.9% guarantee, 99.99% demonstrated
EXTRAS: I would love multiple domain access

Right now I use cphosting. My acct is 250MB/15GB for $100/year. They have good scripts, good support, they are fast, and have great reliability (99.9% guarantee, 99.99% demonstrated). They offered to up my acct to 500MB for the same price and I must admit the appeal of not having to switch hosting is nice (no DNS downtime). But I am using 247MB of my acct now and I could easily use up that 500MB pretty quick.

So here are some of the competitors that have caught my eye. Please let me know if you have any experience with these guys or know anything better.

Tweakedhosting offers 1GB/25GB for $108/year with unlimited dbs, fantastico scripts, and support for 3 domain access. No info on uptime.

Lunarpages offers 800MB/40GB with fantastico support, and one db for $95/year.

Startlogic will give you 1GB/40GB and guarantees 99.9% uptime for $90/y. No word on dbs.

and I like:

Lypha Networks comes in with 1GB/60GB, scripts, unlimited everything (incl. dbs), and a reported uptime of 99.998%. The offer 14 months for $107 or 4 years for $248.

Seen any other good alternatives?

www.geekhosting.com - Cheap and effective! But their premium plans suck compared to the ones listed above.

They are about on par with CP hosting. But what about this:
Server Specs

* Intel Pentium processors
* 1GB RAM [minimum]
* RedHat Linux OS
* Apache web server
Hmmm, Intel Penitum 233 MMX servers? Sounds like Kevin's old server.

I've been pretty impressed with their customer service too.
They usually respond within 5-10 minutes of submitting a support request day or night.
