Speaking of...

... 1541s, I have to modify that cable with a few diodes to make it work on my new-fangled parallel port. The one I built mostly works on old pentium motherboards, 486 boards, and parallel adapter cards. I guess the SPP modes on newer ones don't adhere strictly to the original standards. So I asked Seth if he had the diodes laying around. Once that's done, I will use Kevin's 1541 to dump the disks with the games we either don't have in the collection, or that I had better versions of. I also have a lot of demos that I can't find on any of the online archives.

... I just picked it up yesterday from me mum and dod's house. It's about ready to do some disk image creation. Have to modify my damned cable though. (Maybe.) It might work, but I have to run a utility that says whether or not my parallel interface will work.

No...

Post by R3C »

... it was probably because of an unsupported parallel port or something. I think it will work. There are a few issues, such as none of the utilities for making .D64 files work in NT. I have to open a stupid debug session and load a special driver, to allow direct access to the parallel port. It's really annoying. I don't know if it's breaking there, or because of my port, or what. If I add the diodes to the cable, then I know the cable works with everything.

It...

... works perfectly in DOS. I've had some problems in XP, but that's not a huge deal. Most of the things I want to copy are single files, so I just dump the individual PRG files to a floppy in DOS. I need to get one of those little USB memory jobbies. That would be perfect for this, because I could boot off of it. There are a few things that I don't have the disks for, but I think Seth has them somewhere. I'll dump his disks to. Actually, anyone that still has C64 disks can give them to me and I'll make them emulator friendly. Your 1541 is still a happy camper. I can't believe how good that old stuff works. My 5.25" floppies from the early to mid eighties are still in perfect working order. They haven't even been under any specific care. Just tossed in a box. If you even look at a PC floppy funny it will go bad.

NICE AVATAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stupid squirrel. :D

All of us good C64 people should have archon avatars. Rixler and Spider Munxor, should change theirs. I'm thinking Choki should be a Juggernaut. Do a search for Archon Screenshots and cut one out!

Spidey - this should help. You have to do the phone reg and then dance around with the serial numbers/auth code back and forth but it should reg up. I have the full CSuite and MX04 if you are in need.

I felt compelled to stop fighting the light side and turn my efforts toward rescuing kids with baloons and helicopters from scorpions and birds. Maybe even help their pet alligators while I'm at it....

That's also a serious issue, especially when construction workers have to deal with vandals and OSHA inspectors.
