JoyMaster Mk II Plus Series...

Post by R3C »

... is in full effect!!! Best damned arcade controller I've used too. Seth and I were up til 2:30 in the morning last night finishing up the soldering. The button layout couldn't be better. The bottom row of buttons is 4 wide and in an arc that fits the hand perfectly. Above the first three, are the second row. That way there are two rows of three available for Street Fighter games, and since the bottom row has four, it's laid out perfectly for NeoGeo games. Then there are dedicated Start and Coin buttons for both players (The start buttons have the little people on them.) In the middle of the setup there are two more buttons that are multipurpose. Right now they are mapped to menu funtions, so I can enter and exit the menus and do setup from the joystick. They can also be mapped for action if I put a trackball in. The top swivels front to back like the old JoyMaster Series One. (In fact it's the same cabinet design, but with better layout and controller hardware.) I have to shorten the stand a little. It came out taller than I planned. No I just need a Player 2.

Very nice. Get Jonathan to come by and take some pictures. Then he can mail/post them from your house along with some furniture pics.

You know, it won't be long until you will have a full time player 2 in Auggie. How cool will that be? "But Dad...I don't want to play Zelda. That game is OLD!!"

What did you use for the controller boards? We were just playing Marvel Vs. Capcom last night and wishing we had joysticks. I may have to build me up one of them when I have a place to put it. I am curious as to how difficult it would be to make one compatible with both PC and Xbox.

... the USB Sidewinders you got me. We weren't sure if soldering to the test points would work completely because there are resistors inline all over the PCB, so we scraped the carbon off of the button pads with an exacto, and soldered to the traces underneath. Took a while, but seems to have worked well. I was playing Robotron last night with both sticks. I'm starting to near my old high scores. :D Yeah, Auggie is learning to play fighting games. We played Garou, and Rage of the Dragons yesterday, and he has actually learned to move and attack with one button. I was quite pleased with that progress.

It goes...

... splendidly. Couldn't be happier with it. I think you'll approve. Remember the annoying bouncing stick and wacky player two button issue on the Mk I? It's gone. Wooo Woooo!!

Oh yes I remember. I believe that was 100% of the reason we decided to ditch MarkI and buy all the parts for but never actually build MarkII. :D

... good games of the puzzle variety the other night. I'm not very good at Landmaker anymore. I am however getting to be exceedingly good at Mon(k)ey Puzzle Exchanger, and Magical Drop III.

Yes...

... good idea. Then I'll have to overlay the improvements over Mk I on the pictures. Most of the improvements are ergonomic and with the underlying controller tech. (USB as opposed to gameport.) The enclosure was built in a similar manner. I'm going to order a trackball for it in two weeks.
