JOYMASTER MK II

Post by R3C »

The Joymaster Mk II finally gets built this week. Wednesday or Friday, Seth and I are going to build the new master of joy, the Joymaster Mk II. We aren't installing a trackball just yet. (As I have not yet ordered one, because they are $150 for a 3" HAPP Controls ball.) I'm leaving space in the center to mount it though, and will be installing the buttons to go with it when the stick is being built. Tron spinners would be cool, but won't be necessary to start. Those can also be easily added at any time. It will be Black or White, with Red buttons, and Red Sticks. (All HAPP.) I have the actual 1 and 2 player select buttons with the little guys on them, and black buttons for coin depositing. It will be working within the next few days. A bit late, but no less glorious!!! (Only 2.5 years late) :D :D :D

So Ender, when you're forced out of the country, you'll be able to enjoy that which is: JOYMASTER MK II

I just merged up the new MAME, and got all the currently banned (they ban games that aren't at least a year old,) NEO GEO games like Rage of the Dragons, Samurai Showdown V, KoF 2003, Musashi Ganryuuki, and more delightful games that require the elusive: JOYMASTER MK II

The first four action buttons on each side will be arranged in a plus formation for multi-joystick two player action, and then the fifth and sixth will be next to the upper and right buttons:

...o...o
o....o...o
...o...

JOYMASTER MK II: In full effect this week! If you miss this, you better be dead, or in jail, and if you're in jail, BREAK OUT!!!

Ebay having good deals on trackballs when I was building mine.

If you haven't already looked, here's a couple auctions you should keep an eye on, if this is even what you're looking for:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=13718

and here's a red one with a buy now price of $70, which you can probably bid for alot cheaper:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=13718

and although they don't advertise it, you can email x-arcade.com and order one for around $50, but they only have white ones. I dig the name! What does Mk stand for? All give glory and praise to MAME...and beer.

DYAM IT!!! I FUCKING LOVE BEER!

Let me ask you this Mr. Smart man of electricity and gaming widgets...

If you were a beer...would you drink yourself?

That...

... is exactly what I'm looking for. It looks like it's a clear one, which is what I want, but it also looks like it isn't his picture. (I'll have to read the description. (I'm at work, so I only looked briefly.) I need a clear one so I can put fading red backlights in it for an evil glow. Touch the Magic Trackball!!! Oh, and what kind of beer, and in a bottle or glass?

You may think that that's a face drinking a beer, but it's really the beer's own detached head. :D :D

Oh we know all about the X-Arcade. It is no Joymaster MarkII. Or MarkI for that matter. It does, however, work on the Xbox - which is a nice addition.

It looks like it'd be ok for sitting back on the couch or something. I don't like the button layout though. They go straight out horizontally from the stick. I don't think I've ever seen an upright with the buttons that way. (Unless it was a 2 button game, and even then it was usually diagonal.) I need to make the additions to the JMII. The steering wheels and track-ball would be very nice to have.

Could use one of those, but no. I want a smaller wheel on each side (for playing super-sprint and such,) that detaches from the unit. A knob could be put in the place of the wheel, so Tron and Tempest (and the like) could be played. They also need to be able to turn 360 degrees. It's so fun to just whip the wheel around in Super-Sprint. WWWWEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!! Then the trackball will go between the two stick/button sets for Marble-Madness playing. I'm going to put a USB hub on the inside, so there is only one cable going to the PC. I'm tired of the two short gamepad cables have to be hooked up. That way you wouldn't ever have to change which side is plugged in where.

Plans are already in alpha stage. Just deciding what type of components to use. The spinners that I would have gotten are no longer on the HAPP site, so I need to build my own. They're going to use a keyed ball-bearing, mouse guts (for USB interface and optical encoders.) Left wheel will be the X-Axis, the right wheel will be the Y-Axis. There will be a short shaft which either a wheel or knob will be attached to on the outside. Not difficult to make at all. Not is it as time consuming as building the JM itself. As far as the USB hub goes, I just need to go find a cheap USB hub, rip the case off, and double-stick it down. You may be wondering why I wouldn't just stick the whole hub down? Aesthetics. :D The more wires and lights inside the better. The front will have a solid panel for the wheel/knob units, but the back will be plexiglass. (I guess front and back could be reversed depending on point of view.)
