Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
This one's easy. Ori and the Will of the Wisps is easily the best metroidvania game I've played in years. Like playing a Ghibli movie. SO GOOD!

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
I haven't actually been playing it seriously just yet. Just installed it and got it to work but have yet to really play it fo reelz and such. Would be cool to do a group game although I can't host as I don't have access to port forwarding.
Little more about the mod though - its Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction but all of the characters have a new skill tree, a bunch new items, new game mechanics, and much much more! ha. Everything else is the same with the exception of this mod using 3DFX Glide for some reason so the lighting is a little bit better than Direct3D but the colors look a little different. You have to use 3DFX Glide if you want to do full screen under a modern resolution. If you prefer the old Diablo II colors you have to run it windowed mode under Direct3D.

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
It looks pretty fun since it's all new skillz and thrillz but there is stuff to study if you really want to get into it in terms of how to build your character and transmorgrification recipes or whatever they are called when you use the Horadric cube.
Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
Playing Doom Eternal of course!
Also a spot of Terraria, and a bit of New Super Mario Bros on Switch.

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
Hey R3C, seems like steam pop ups are always telling me you're playing Stardew Valley. That one of the lil ones or is that game fun? I don't know anything about it really.
Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
Yeah, the girls play that a LOT. I have five Steam accounts with slight username alterations, so you'll see plenty of J3RKs online playing things.
They LOVE that game. Second only to Minecraft I think. It's like a modern, enhanced, Harvest Moon sort of thing. Build a farm, interact with NPCs, light adventuring, etc. Seems cool, but I haven't given it a whirl myself yet. I still love Terraria for my building needs.

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
I always pictured it as sort of a low-stakes game of Anter Planter...
Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
I do believe you're correct! Low stakes, but wider breadth of activity.
Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
Hey guys, first time poster here. PS4 and Switch are my platforms and this is what's on my plate, bouncing between these and trying to finish up old playthroughs. Also my wife was a big Harvest Moon fanatic and she loves Stardew Valley, so I feel like I've vicariously played it by seeing it onscreen a lot.
The Messenger - pretty awesome Ninja Gaiden style game. Great for 15-30 min bursts of gameplay in between finding productive things to do during the day. It's on sale for like $14 right now and includes an expansion.
Dragon Quest XI - Started this game over a year ago and all honestly was disappointed with it. Probably the most boring DQ I've played in the series. Just trying to finish this before the FFVII Remake comes out. Holy shit that FFVII Remake Demo... wow.
Fire Emblem Heroes - Slowly playing my way through the expansion pass content, I've already sunk over 150 hours into completing 2 of the 4 possible paths in this game. A single big story required battle takes 1 - 3 hours on average. Love me some turn based tactical strategy. If you're looking for a more casual (but still intense) tactical strategy indie I highly recommend Into The Breach.
Civilization VI - Don't get me started... I have a problem where I cannot stop playing this game. Recent playthrough as Genghis Khan featured an epic horse battle vs the Scythians. Attained religious victory before I could complete a world domination victory.
Death Stranding - I started this game a while ago, it was amazing, it was also not so amazing, and now it's just a reality.

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
I LOVE The Messenger! Really good game, and I love how they do that pseudo-8 bit to pseudo-16 bit transition mid-game. Really Really good.
Actually, I'm really into all such 2D games, and have been keep a little semi-database of them on another site. I'll copy some of it over to here.
Edit:
I copied it to a separate topic:

Steam BBCode! Ads! Whee!
Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
That's a pretty comprehensive list! Fuck yeah, Lone Survivor. That is one of my all time favorite indie games, I'd recommend actually finishing as it has multiple endings.
Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
I definitely plan to go back and play Lone Survivor again. It has a really good atmosphere. It's one of those leaning over in your chair while running away from something games.

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
I've actually been messing around with Lakka, an all in one emulation package. "Lakka is the official Linux distribution of RetroArch and the libretro ecosystem." http://www.lakka.tv/
I have Lakka running on my Raspberry Pi 4 + 4GB, and I must say I'm rather impressed.
I'm currently playing Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2, and I'm trying to remember how to make Rune Glifberg do his pointaculous "Christ Air" special move!

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
I fired up THPS on original Xbox not that long ago (can't remember which one) and it wasn't quite as fun as I remember.
I just beat Ori and the Will of the Wisps y-day. Need to figure out what to do next in console world.

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
Oh hell yeah. Is that your design?
Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
The case, yes. If you haven't looked into the MiSTer platform, I'd highly recommend it. It's a little more expensive than some of the other options out there though once you're all in on the hardware/accessories. It's great though. SpiderMonxer has one too, but in the original acrylic case. I can elaborate on it a bit more later. If you find that you want to dabble, I can help get you going with it.

How has the OS been progressing lately? I'd love to build another little box to give it a whirl on again. It didn't really like the box I had last time though, so I had to go with Mint. I really liked the interface though.McNevin wrote: ↑Sun Mar 29, 2020 12:51 pmI've actually been messing around with Lakka, an all in one emulation package. Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
Awesome. Do you have a photo of the back I/O?
Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
If I did this again, I would probably make it just a tiny bit smaller, and would add two more USB ports on the back. Maybe internalize the power supply too. Overall though, I think it's pretty decent.
Here is the rear IO:

Those little panel mount extender cables are at Adafruit, and are quite reasonable.
This site is the best one for getting started with the hardware and accessories:

Smoke Monster on YouTube has a good channel with news and info of this type.
The devs hang out on Atari Forum.

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
Re: Lakka. I had it running on my 2013 Zotac Z-Box but it didn't run very well. I've heard that all the devs are optimize for ARM/Pi and x86 doesn't get much love. I switched to Pi 4+ and it's much faster. Still a bit rough (you have to pair bluetooth controllers over SSH), but it's getting better every day.
Maybe we need a new official evaluation topic where we can expand on this discussion.

Re: Life Under Lockdown: What are you playing?
Anyone play any of the Witcher games? In particular Witcher 3? It's on everyone's best of lists for recent games but I only got through the tutorial/opening story before getting bored. Combat seemed overly complicated too.
