Touchscreens!?!?!
Ok so I thought touch screens sucked in the past but I didn't have one and so my use of them was pretty limited but I really didn't want to ever get a touchscreen phone just from what I had used. Well...I finally sold out and got an Android phone! w00t!??? NO!!!
WTF!?!?!?!?!?!
Touchscreens SSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I friggen HATE them now...HATE. seriously...HATE!!!!!!!!!!
How could anyone like them???? They are smudgemastering clumsy hard to use gimmicks I say!
I cannot type on one yet. Trying but at a speed of about 8wpm maybe.
I guess I was a more advanced key user than I originally thought because I would actually type one handed without looking at the phone and now that is a friggin laugh... I can't type one handed with my Samsung Galaxy...I can't type as fast two handed looking at the phone on my stupid touchscreen phone as I can with a blindfold on and one hand tied behind my back on the blackberry...well for simple words at least - get into trouble with shifted characters but still!
Android 2.2 would be fine if you could use a mouse with it but with a crappy touchscreen, (touchscreens are inherently crappy so really is double crappy) it pretty much sucks all the oil off your fingers. I am glad I have been so out of touch with touch screens but really I am pretty in touch with how they suck....I am pissed god damn it!!! I really like the android browsar although not having a pointer pretty much sucks a ton of ass. Also moving the cursor with your finger covering where you want the cursor to go sucks even more ass. Like when you are sucking ass trying to type on a crappy touchscreen and need to go back a couple letters while trying to get your comcast email account configured on Android and it doesn't work because Android can't friggin interface with a simple mail server?!??!?! wtf!?!??!
Anyway - pissed off...I was pissed off when Blackberry made the keys smaller on the bold that I have now because the one before that I could friggen haul ASS when I typed - it was stupid how fast I could type on my old blackberry...Now what the hell....
I don't know how multitasking works yet but I am betting it is going to do some ass sucking. The blackberry OS is friggen retarded when it comes to not sucking ass at multitasking - its totally stupid how well it does not suck ass...it has an IQ of zero to the zeroth power its so fucking dumb...
Well...time to find more things to complain about with the friggen phone...
OH but wait! There is one very cool thing! I am out of contract with those AT&T bastards!!!! My bill was between $143-$154 a month!!!! For two friggen years!!!! That is insanely expensive! Insane!!!! I only had 700 minutes too!!!! Ack!!!!
Anyway...went with Boost $50/month unlimited webawebaweba, talkatalktalka, and textatextatexta...Then it goes down $5 every six months to $35 a month... I've spent over $3500 on cell phone bills for the last two years with AT&T...Boost will be $1020...yeah $2500 gone...w00t.

ok after several minutes of practicing I have increased my typing speed via a touchscreen by a factor of 4. However it still sucks a lot of ass...
There is also a laggy problem with my fricken android phone which is amazingly annoying...really fricken annoying...why does it have to lock up so???? retarded...

Love my Android. No lag, no crashes, and it's snappy as can be. I'm on the fence as far as touch interfaces go. Some things are great that way. Others not so much. You really notice it when you're on the phone, and have to dial options. If you have buttons, you can keep your fingers where you can still hit them while you're listening in some cases. Not possible with a touch screen. However, I've gotten pretty quick at typing on it for normal text type things. I'm faster with keys, but I really don't like to communicate this way on mobile devices unless I'm stuck somewhere or something like this anyway.
I LOVE the touch interface with my iPad 2. The onscreen keys are big enough to type fast on, you can bluetooth the wireless Apple keyboard to it (which I have two of, so....) etc. If the interface is carefully designed, and the form-factor is well developed, I think the touch screen is great. If it's too small, the interface isn't quite right, etc. Then it sucks! My Droid Incredible is pretty nice. Not perfect, but nice. Samsung has a nice Android phone that has a slide out keyboard. Perhaps you'd like that one. My friend has one, and it's nice!

I am pretty sure the lag is because of the model of phone I have.
I wanted to get an iPad but I have a huge problem with it not supporting flash for browsing which is annoying in itself but the only reason it doesn't support it is because Apple refuses to...so that is beyond lame. The iPad doesn't render animated HTML 5 stuff as well as it should in terms of speed where the animation just chunks too much so whatever...
There are dual core android phones now that support Flash, which I am thinking about getting although might not if the plan is too expensive. I just spent 45 minutes on the phone with AT&T and they are desperate to not have me leave and say they can cut my bill in half...will have to see tomorrow when the website updates my account.
I have to say I am pretty impressed by the Motorola Atrix and the Samsung Galaxy S2 which looks way cool. Atrix 5mpx camera 1ghz cores, S2 is 8mpix and 1.3ghz cores but the thing is just super thin and light...AT&T says they can get me a refurbed Atrix for $49...we'll see...

Apple doesn't support Flash because it's a piece of crap. Unfortunately it's a ubiquitous piece of crap. I HATE Adobe. I hate their QA policies (experienced first hand.) Good riddance to Flash I say, however, it does limit you a little bit.
I was thinking the Motorola Xoom looked cool. I'd actually like to have one AND my iPad 2. However, all the software that I currently want on a tablet platform is available on the iPad, so I'm doing ok. It would be nice to play some emulator ports and things like this like I could on the Xoom/Android platform, but not entirely necessary. I do have a laptop if I need that sort of thing on the go. (not that I take it anywhere though)
I think some of the Flash thing is Apple's ego, but their base reason whether it's the real main reason or not is still sound. Flash is buggy, unstable garbage. To hell with it!
But yeah, Android is cool. Very cool! I just prefer Apple's interface very slightly. The overall look and feel of their devices is pretty spot-on. Not sure why HTML5 would be chunky on the iPad. Were you using it on an iPad 2? Is there a particular site you could point me at, that I could check it out on mine? I'm kind of interested to see this in general.
Over.

Flash isn't like Reader. HATE READER!!! Most hated software evar!!! HATE!!!! I've never had a problem with Flash ever. Flash is a huge part of internet content and deciding not to support it because Apple don't like it sucks. It'd be like Apple deciding not to support GIFs because they don't have enough colors. Apple should just have a warning that pops up everytime Flash is used on a new page load like, "WARNING! APPLE DOES NOT APPROVE THE USE OF FLASH! FLASH IS BUGGY, UNSTABLE GARBAGE! HTML 5 IS APPLE APPROVED!" or something
Oh here is that test...compare your PC to your iPad and see if it is all smooooooth
The Embossed blobs are pretty intensive...

Oh yeah the Android thing...I am taking up the attitude you had about a cell phone being a phone and honestly phones are powerful enough now to where you don't need to pay a ton anymore to get something decent. I'm just pissed off at AT&T basically...I just got used to paying a ton for so long that $135-$155/month wasn't that big of a deal. Being in a 2-year contract kind of sucked but really wasn't that big of a deal. EXCEPT it is...I just didn't think about it until recently. You can easily save over $1000 a year by getting an older android phone and not be under contract. I just use my phone for text, maps/nav, minor web, and light talking anymore...Any feature that the latest Android or iPhone has isn't worth the extra money. It's all a huge ego trap I didn't see before with the cell companies. It used to be $200 for early termination of a 1-year contract and now it is a $325 early termination for a 2yr contract. They just recently increased it from $175 to $325...Cancelling them was ridiculous, the guy I was talking to was seriously getting frustrated that nothing he was telling me was having an effect. I think the cell phone employees are a victim of the cell phone trap. He was like you don't want an old chincey prepaid Android phone! I'm an Android guy myself and the new ones are like computers in your hand now! blah blah blah...ridiculous...Paying an extra $1000+ a year is ridiculous. It just seems like it isn't that big of a deal because it is over a one year period...but these contracts are two years long now...and $1000/year is over $80/month...if you think it isn't a big deal pay me $80 every month! woohoo!!!

The CELL PHONE TRAP!!!!!!!!!!
I'm wise to you you big brother cell phone brain washing machines you!!! There is actually a lot of interesting psychology that goes on with cell phones these days... Brainwashed people will call their phone my iPhone, my BlackBerry, My Android, instead of just iPhone etc... Seems kind of normal that you would call your iPhone my iPhone right? like, "I like MY iPhone" but really it should just be "I like iPhone"...when was the last time you called Windows 7 "My Windows 7?" I like MY WINDOWS 7 DAMNIT!!!! And MY MICROSOFT MOUSE DAMNIT!!!! SELLING OUT!!! BRAINWASH BEWARE!!!! THEY WILL GET YOu!!!! THEY ARE GETTING YOU!!!! AAHHHHH HAHAHAHHAAA!!!!!!! The bastards!!! I am wise to their game!!! I am wise to the massive hyper brainwash marketing techniques making us believe we must have this or that when it comes to cell phones!!!! What!?!?!? You only have a 5 megapixel camera??? I have an 8 megapixel one! AHAHAHAHAAAA!!!!! OH!!! Look how long your phone took to load up Angry Birds!!!! Look at mine!!! OH WOW YOUR ANGRY BIRDS LOADS SO MUCH FASTER!!!! SEE!!?? Ridiculous!!!!! That is how they get you!!!!!! What??? You can't record 30fps 720p video??? You suck! Your phone sucks! My iPhone 4 is the shit yo!!! Then you actually feel like shit because you are recording at some lame 17fps or whatever the blah...Yo Checkout my new Samsung Galaxy S2!!!! Can only get it in Europe now abut it has dual 1.2ghz CPUs!!!! HAHA Motorola Atrix and your dual 1ghz processsors!!! I'm kickin ass with my dual 1.2 and 8mpix camera while you are only rockin your dual 1ghz and 5mpix camera! HAAAA HAAA!!!! SEEE!??!?! THat is how they get you!!!! See then you realize wait! I had to special order this phone from Europe for $900 plus pay that extra $80/mont! For 2 years!?!?! Oh but wait it is 10 grams lighter!!!! Err wait?!??! DUDE MY SAMSUNG GALAXY S2 IS 1MM thinner than your iPHONE!!!! IS that worth $900??? Wait! NO!!!!!! HAAAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! HA I say! HA! Who's laughing now?!?!?!? Who's laughing now?!?!?!? Damint! Where is Ash at!?? The cell phone service providers are out to get you!!!! They are playing into our ego!!!! You don't own an iPhone! Your iPhone is your iPhone hence the "my iPhone" reference!!! So you take it personally when someone says something against iPhone!!! They are getting you!!!!
Ack...Anyways...yeah...pretty interesting stuff here as of late that I have noticed. It was really interesting dealing with the AT&T guy as I was cancelling my service. I honestly got the impression that he was taking it personally by me terminating with them to go with a low end "chincey" pre-paid service like Boost/Virgin/T-Mobile. So far the service looks like it sucks signal strength wise but I actually haven't had a problem talking yet but most of the time I am just texting anyways so who cares. The 3G I have through Sprint seems like it is slower than the 3G I have through AT&T but I am not sure although if it is slower then I am losing a few seconds of my life by not paying more for the faster service. This is a really weird thing in my life to be at right now to recognize what is going on with cell phones. I mean it sort of used to be a status thing but I was never into the status game. I haven't gone clubbing enough. But really just looking back at things an extra land line was $20-$30 a month back in the day and then cell phones came out and of course it was super expensive but how much more should it cost? When did we all just get ok with paying $100+ month for service???? I'm not there anymore...I'm wondering if I can do a prepay for shrinkage thing so I can get the $35/month unlimited everything...Really though, cell phones have become very powerful and now you can get a low end 2.2 Android for $50/month for unlimited. People are paying a big premium for luxuries....

You're onto something with the psychology there. However, the 8MP camera in the phone that I own, is quite simply the best digital camera I've owned. It does some nice work. I can get some nice depth of field, the color is excellent, and you can zoom in several times before seeing any artifacts. Beautiful (for a digital.) And it's in the phone that I own. It's pretty handy. I've taken more pictures now because of this than I have since I got my first 35mm as a kid. I agree on most of your other points above. There is one thing though. My phone is the one that says Bad Motherfucker on it.

It was funny too how the whole time I was talking to the guy they kept saying how great of a customer I was and how awesome my account was and how I am elligible to get deals that normal att customers are not. EGO!
Yes a camera in the phone is handy but you don't need the absolute best! That is how they get you!!!! They got you! But, just out of curiosity, what phone do you have? Oh no! They might be getting me now! I have to complain about my battery life though - that is a genuine concern for a phone though.
Anyway, I think the whole thing that is getting pushed constantly is that you MUST have the very best everything for your phone or you have a crappy phone and MUST upgrade. Like being overconditioned to think every little thing matters when it really doesn't while also constantly distracting you with the latest newest thing that is cool that puts you in a good mood so you will buy. Like, why buy a Samsung Galaxy with the super amoled display when you can get the Samsung UNIVERSE! With 3D amoled display!!!! And the goggles you have to wear to see the 3d are also night vision goggles!!!! I mean that would be cool and all but...

I have an Incredible. It's got a 1GHz processor, and a nice 8MP camera. So, it works as a phone. (that's what I need it for) Here's the thing though. It's better than my actual camera, so having the camera that I have negates the need to carry a "real" camera. Which I own, but never carry around with me, because, who the F wants to carry extra S around? So all the times where I would have said, "Hey, I need an MFin' camera, so I can get a picture of this S" I actually have one on hand now, and it's a good one. So the pictures I take can actually be printed if I want, and look like they were taken by a decent camera. The reason that I DO NEED a good camera in my phone, is that my phone IS my camera. So, that's fine. It's serves a couple of functions. I don't play games on my phone. I did put some Ultima, Star Control, and other free ports on it out of curiosity, but I find that I don't actually play anything on it. (that's what I have the iPad for, games and music apps on the go if I think I'll need such a thing) I have also started putting music on my phone for playing in the car, because I got tired of carrying a phone and my iPod. I prefer dedicated devices, but I definitely don't prefer hauling them around anymore. I used to carry an attache, and now a backback, but I still don't want to fill it with electronic devices, charging cables, etc. (so the phone as a multipurpose device has grown on me a little)
If I could wear a man-purse, and had it on me ALL THE TIME, I'd get a Verizon iPad 2 instead of the WiFi one I have now, and use it for a phone too with a headset perhaps. Because if I had it on me all the time, why not. Doesn't matter if it's bigger than a phone if you're already carrying it, and have a headset. (though I think it would look super-awesome to hold an iPad up to your head to talk on it) I already have an unlimited data-plan so I can get my work email on my phone without paying $$$$$, so this would actually work medium well. But then, I need a purse. Padpurse, Pursepad, Pursephonepad-PersephonePad?
Anyway, yeah, there is definitely some mobile-space clutter right now. I was full of it, but now I have a phone/camera and an iPad2. Seems to work out well. I don't haul the pad around all the time either. Just when I think it could come in handy.

I suppose they did. I suppose they did. However, I think it was a total of $99? So why not go from the goofy phone I was using to this? This is actually thinner than the phone I was using, and has all these extras. I wish it had the keyboard though. That would be cool. (but then, I'd probably start playing games on it. )l2eckluse! wrote:They got you!!

You haven't redeemed your Terraria license yet have you!?!?! HA! You didn't think I'd look for you in this thread did you!?!?! Did you?!?!?!? If you really don't think you'll play it, I'll revoke it, and give it to someone else. It is only $9 anyway if you did want to play it later.
My battery life isn't too bad if I'm not doing too much with my phone. (which is usually the case) It's not amazing by any means, but I throw it on the charger once a day, or every other day (depending on use.)

HTC Evo Shift running stock rooted Android 2.2 (will run 2.3 but not til a Sense rip comes out).
Sprint 4g is pretty awesome and Android make Windows Mobile 6.5 feel like Win 95 running Netscape beta.
Did it come stock with Swype or did you have to install it yourself? I presume you are using Swype? I was surprised to find that it isn't installed on all the Android phones which seems totally insane considering how innovative it is.
I'd say it's awesome enough that all phones in the future will have it because of how much faster it is... Will be interesting to see if Apple will use it though.

No Swype. I'll check it out.
My battery strategy = buying an extra battery on ebay for $10 and swapping them back and forth around 6pm-9pm when it inevitably dies. Been doing that one since the first touch pro. The biggest problem with adult phones is they get tired and want to go to bed right after dinner.

Endar did you install Swype on your phone? It is a must. If you do not the Swype police will get you! They will get you! I presume you did however...cuz they would have gotten you by now...but if not don't get got!
I would have got got if I had not sought it so I thought but it was on my phone since I got it when I bought it at the Shack from a hack sales chap who thought Boost was crap but I said I thought not and bought it not on a whim and not for fun but to save funds for each month so I could have more fun in the sun when its out and I am not in my great hall and out and about as I write to you all with the thrill of the use of my Boost cell phone and one small syllable...I wonder what it is like to work as an embalmer.
