The quest for 3 monitors

Post by Bill Drayton Jr. »

Anyone got anything similar to this?

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814150297

I want the clock speeds to match as close as possible which looks like this

would be pretty close - although a bit slower than the one I have.

You know, one of these will run three monitors all by itself.

No, I did not know that. How do you connect a third monitor?

Do I just buy a DVI splitter?

It has 2 DVI, one HDMI, and a DisplayPort connection. I'm not sure which combinations you can do, so you may want to research it a little bit. The whole new thing about the new ATI cards (aside from DX11,) is the ability to run three monitor gaming setups. I think most people buy three identical monitors with display-port connections, and then go from there, but if I'm not mistaken, you should be able to use say, 2 DVI and one HDMI. I know the resolutions all have to be the same for games, but I would think you could use any mode for the desktop. You'll want to check out the ATI site to be sure though, as I haven't done it myself yet.

No it has 2 DVI, and one S-Video.

I know you can convert from DVI to either DisplayPort or HDMI but that doesn't give you the extra connection.

Are you sure you don't need two video cards? I don't see how what you are saying is possible.

You are incorrect. It has 2 DVI, One HDMI, and One Display Port. (and possibly an S-Video too.) Maybe I linked the wrong card?

I don't have time to find it, but there is another version of this same card with an egg-shaped heatpipe cooler on it, which cools a little better, and it's a little quieter too I believe. It's the one the Admiral and I are using. It's also XFX.

Anyway, these are cheap, perform quite well, have DX11, and support 3 monitors in what they call Eyefinity...

If you like that one, you can keep it. It's a bit bigger, and I still haven't found the stand for the other one yet. If you'd prefer the other though, I'll keep looking. No big deal either way, as long as you like whichever one you have. I could plug the other one into something next time you're over, and you can see what it looks like turned on.

Yeah...one video card would be better than two since I would have to get a bigger power supply to run them both.

I'm not sure the 6 display card is out yet. They're supposed to be out soon though I think. The current models do three.

Yeah, I'm thinking I'd rather just get a really big screen at that point.
