Elusive \\l2icks0r\c$ problem...

Post by Bill Drayton Jr. »

I cannot figure this problem out and don't know what happened to trigger it.

I have multiple machines that are behind a router and sharing between them has always been handled by using default shares on each machine along with the same admin user account password. One day after I don't know what - installing adobe acrobat 8 and also setting my computer to auto login by using the running "control userpasswords2" the default shares stopped working.

I read a bunch of stuff tried a bunch of stuff but nothing has worked.

My main machine cannot see itself or any of the other computers on the workgroup. It can actually address itself and see shared folders but cannot access the folders so running \\l2icks0r works and can see all shared folders etc...but \\l2icks0r\c$ fails...also viewing all workgroup computers on the network fails to show anything up in the elite workgroup. I've turned off/on any service that looks remotely like it would have anything to do with it and have no luck...

Other things:
net share - reports what default shares are available.

net view - reports 'there are no entries in the list.'
net name - reports 'there are no entries in the list.'

both net view and net name should display computer names. Net view should display all computer names in the workgroup and net name should just display the computer name for the computer that it is running on.

I've continually played around with the shared folders/shares from the computer management console but everything seems fine. I've deleted shares re-added them etc...

I've also tried changing the permissions on all the folders and adding no security basically...

I've turned off/on windows firewall service etc...

I've uninstalled/reinstalled network drivers, services, protocols...

OH yeah - there is no problem pinging a machine or using the internet or even using remote desktop for any machine on my network as long as I use the local ip address instead of the name...

I've ran spyware doctor looking for problems etc and found nothing but I don't really ever have anything like that anyway...

Anyway...can't figure this crap out...there must be some normalized monkey brain that knows what the hell is screwed up or disabled or blah blahed on my system... I'll give a prize to whoever figures this out like some nice random neuroleptics or something or nothing if that is not your thing...anyway so yeah...help.
