teh enderzero.net Guide to Seattle

Post by enderzero »

ha ha holla. I have a friend visiting Seattle for the first time next weekend so I put together a little guide to some eating spots for the city. Next I plan to mention a few attractions and activities worth her time. But I figured (as I tend to do) that I would post it here so that a) it would be saved for future reference and b) other sea-towners could add their thoughts and spark discussion.

ooookay... Let's start with Restaurants. I haven't lived there for goin on 5 years - but here is what I am sure is good:

Malay Satay Hut - citysearch
mmm, Malaysian food - a great mix of Thai and Indian flavors. Go hungry and start with an order of Chicken Satay and Roti Canai (sweet naan like bread). You can't go wrong with any of the noodle dishes or try the Buddhist Yam Pot or Mango Shrimp for something a bit different.
Also with an eastside location in Redmond (Overlake):

Gordito's Healthy Mexican Food - citysearch
Go all the way to Seattle for a Burrito? It might sound crazy but you will be thanking the tortilla gods that you made the trip. Tucked away in the North Seattle district of Greenwood, Gordito's is a hidden gem for those in the know. No matter which huge and healthy burrito you choose, it is bound to be delicious - but I personally recommend any that is slathered in sauce.

Coastal Kitchen - citysearch
One of the most original restaurants around and a fan-tas-tic breakfast spot, Coastal Kitchen chooses a different world region each month to base their revolving menu on. Incredibly delicous and an awesome atmosphere, this Capitol Hill eatery is too convenient to pass up.

14 Carrot Cafe - citysearch
Another very worthy breakfast/brunch/lunch spot is this charming little restaurant situated just above Lake Union in the very convenient neighborhood of Eastlake. Very Northwest and very different than LA fare, the 14 Carrot has menu items like Tahini French Toast and and other oddities. The Sandwiches are also worth a taste if you happen to be in the mood for a mid day bite.

Pagliacci Pizza - citysearch
Ordering in or grabbing a quick slice, Pagliacci is the pizza I lament not being able to order in LA anytime I have the craving. Their Pesto Primo is oh so delish. Of course if you are lactose intolerant this may be worthless... but it could be worth a special Lactaid event for this place.

Coffee:
shhhhit, forget about it. It is so hard to tell you where to go. Everyone has their favorites.
Zeitgeist link, Vivace link, and Victrola link are known for their especially high quality coffee. Bauhaus link is a fave of mine for ambiance. It is all too much fun to just experiment with cool looking coffee shops while in Seattle - just don't get overwhelmed and head into a big chain in frustration.

One very cool thing about Seattle is the concentration of great brew houses. These places tend to have standard but good and relatively inexpensive grub and always fantastic beer. While you may have seen a beer or two of theirs in the grocery store, the brewery always has a few seasonal or special brews worth trying. Breweries are an especially good place to meet up with friends to start the night.

Pike Brewery link is an especially fun spot right downtown within walking distance of most anything you are doing down there. Pyramid link is right across the street form the stadiums and always a popular spot on gamedays (and also where I started my 21st bday) - their Hefeweizen is the best around. Elysian link is an especially cool local brewhouse nestled in on First Hill. I remember their food being the best of the brewhouse bunch. Gordon Biersch link and Deschutes link also have Seattle outposts.

That's what I got for now. I'll write more later regarding things to do and see.

Restaurant/ coffee

Sitka & Spruce -http://www.thestranger.com/seattle/Content?oid=34049
Some of the best food in Seattle. The menu changes daily based on local ingredients. It tends to get a bit crowded at night, sometimes with a half-hour or so wait, but well worth it.
Also has some of the best coffee in seattle.

Boat Street Cafe -http://www.seattleweekly.com/food/0550/ ... street.php
Good, not too pricey, southern French food.

Also for coffee

Lighthouse -http://seattle.citysearch.com/review/10774238
A bit out of the way, but along with Sitka, probably the best coffee in seattle...

If you like coffee, for real, and you are going to be in the Redmond area, go to Victors Coffee.
