Yes, we need more super computer buddies. The current line of super computer buddy parts is steadily decreasing in price. ~$400 for the 1900XT. The X2s and equivalent Opterons are getting fairly reasonable as well. You need to find someone that needs a new computer, so so you can do the "trickle-down-trade-up" operation.

Made a change in the CPU section. :D

Don't know what it will run at yet, because I haven't installed it. From what I've seen on the HardOCP forums, they run anywhere from 2500 to 2900 for this exact batch. (CCBWE 0551 UPMW)

128K L1 per core
1MB L2 per core

BTW: This means that I will have a Venice 3200+ on hand if anyone needs it. (SpidMonxey gets my X2 3800+) The 3200+ is $99 new, so I'll sell it for $50.

It runs at 2500MHz at 1.4 volts, which runs the memory at 416MHz. That a nice comfortable yet fast OC. I think it would go quite a bit further with a bit of tweaking, but I don't want to push it, and kill the file-system. I'll push it up next time I do a reinstall. The Opteron 170 is a very nice chip.

Don't think I'm going to. I've got multiple cores on my CPU, I'm picking up a Crossfire board (even if I don't do crossfire, I can pick up an X1600 for cheaper than the PhysX card, and use ATI's physics setup.) I hear an X1600 will outperform the PhysX card by a fairly large margin.

Do you realize that in 3 pages of the All New Specs and Bench thread there are zero benchmark scores?

Well do you?

I do! (and I'm quite happy about it) I HATE benchmarking. If someone else would like to hop onto my PC and run them for me... :D The Admiral was responsible for the last set of marks I posted. (in fact, he even posted them :D :D :D )

I know - we conspired to get accurate HDD scores out of you since everytime we post our scores you post scores from a test just slightly different enough to make it unable to be compared to what we just posted. :D :D

Well, now that benchmarking isn't a part of my job, I may become willing to run them here or there in the future. :D

Updated my list. No longer power supply buddies. Mine decided to stop working yesterday (unless it's my motherboard.) Hopefully the new supply will fix it. It just doesn't turn on. It flashes the front panel lights briefly, and then does nothing.

Well, got that fancy new suppply, and it still doesn't work. Gotta take the motherboard back today. Great, another winning board from ASUS. I'm starting to share the Admiral's distaste for ASUS. If I had extra cash I'd trade it in for a DFI. The board was already $200 though, I don't think I want to spend the $279 or whatever the DFI board is going for locally right now. I'll just get an ASUS replacement for now. Kinda glad there was not a problem with the Enermax supply though. I'll just use it in the secondary box, move the Seasonic down to the tertiary box, etc.

ASUS is fine. It wasn't my motherboard, which is why I've been trying to call you for the last 20.3 hours. (non-phone-answering-jerk) So it ended up being *gasp* my system drive. I lost all of my movies, audio apps, and other torrentially acquired goods. RMA is in progress, and I have a different one now. See updated specs.

This is the first Seagate drive that I've had die on me since those chrome, black, and green ones with the checkered flag on them from 1996. It wasn't a read problem either. Some kind of short. If the drive is plugged in, the system won't turn on and the fans will only twitch. Unplug the drive, and everything is fine. Weird business.

BTW: go take a look at that ASUS board. I think you'll find that it's quite cool. ASUS A8R32-MVP Deluxe

It has an external SATA2 port on the ATX section by the USB ports. I think that's kinda cool. May eventually have to get that Adaptec SATA RAID box on Newegg. It's about time that I had some properly mirrored storage.

I'm actually setting up something like that here at work. (little RAID box to do non-tape backups onto)

Don't think he needs too much input. Looks like a rrrocking box. Tell him he forgot a floppy drive.
