The whole thing seems strange, it's like a total mishmash of styles - it needs to have John Denver to be complete though. I'd so be there if John Denver was there to sing Rocky Mountain High - or maybe Madonna and Garth Brooks could sing it together with koRn and Phil Collins! Su Su Sudio!!! Perfect.

Sooo, one week ago we were baking under the hawt Indio sun. It was well worth it. Joe W. Beeeph can maybe post a few pics and chime in. Here's who we saw:

MURS - tight ass hippin and a hoppin from this Living Legend. Good to get things started in the cool little tent.

teh MATISYAHU - dyamnn!! This guy blew the place up. I have been luvin the new cd and he tore it apart and laid it down. I would go see him again in a heart beat. Basically I would go see any of the bands we saw again very eagerly.

BLOC PARTY - I love this band but I didn't have the highest expectations from their live sets I have heard. They definitely did not disappoint. It was a fantastic set, although a bit hot and a bit short. But they certainly rock.

THE YEAH YEAH YEAHS - While I dig the CD tremendously, we were just too hot and tired by this late afternoon set to get into it. Everyone was. And the place was freakin packed!! Way more crowded (sold out) than last year. But we chilled on the ground a bit and heard the weird chick belt her lungs out.

SEU JORGE - Refuge in the shade of the tent - and the amazing Brazilian sounds of Seu Jorge (of City of God and Life Aquatic fame). He and his band played their hearts out and Beeeph and I were heartily impressed.

MADONNA - we only caught a couple songs and they were from way way way back in the way way way big tent. We could barely even see the giant screens. She did take her pants off though. Oh, and I guess she must have been playing music as well. How weird that Madonna was at Coachella.

COHEED AND CAMBRIA - W O W !! These guys are freakin rock stars! They went nuts and they fuckin rock! Amazing set... unfortunately we had to pull ourselves away half way through to go see...

THE GO! TEAM - who was the biggest surprise of the evening. If you had told me this band was one dude with a powerbook and an old turntable I would have believed you. Nope - nine piece band - hot little female drummer, amazingly energetic singer (whose name is Ninja!), and little asian guitarist who wailed. They were soooo into it and it came out as one of the awesomist sets ever. This was close to equivalent ot the Arcade Fire's set last year. I have been listening to them for well over a year now and missed two shows in LA. I am kicking myself now and looking very forward to the next time they come through town. Very very unfortunately (and unnecessarily) we left early to get positioned for...

TOOL - ohh Tool... how you rocketh. I gotta say they were probably better than NIN was last year. It was a fantastic set. The new songs are great. They opened with Stinkfist, played Aenima, 46 and 2, Sober, Lateralus, Schism... (Beeeph...?). The crowd was quite subdued. It was a bottleneck of a push when the began to get up front (like NIN) but once we were 20 ft from the stage, everyone had plenty of room. I probably went about as nuts as I ever go at concerts and got a few people moving around a bit. I can't say they were perfect. It shows they haven’t played live in 3 years or something. But man... you know... it's Tool.

We saw at least a song or two by Metric, Gnarls Barkley, Coldcut, James Blunt, and Oakenfold. The bill was so full and the polo grounds were way too crowded. Still, this show goes down as one fo the best concerts I have ever been to.

How was Gnarls Barkley? They just got added to the line-up for Fuji Rock and I'm considering whether to go or not. So far it's looking a little "meh!".

I have to click a LINK??!?!?!

fine...

hmm, well not super exciting. Chili Peppers, Yeah*3s, Atmosphere and Blackalicious. I have never been but always had the impression that the concert was a pretty major headache (getting there and back, staying, etc). You've been a few times, eh?

40,000+yen for 3 day pass!!
that is madness...

why don't you just hop a flight to NY for the weekend and see 'em over here. Fuji lineup looks interesting, but 40,000yen!!

definetly one of the things I don't miss about japan.
stay under the 1yen curve!

The price tag is one of the reasons I'm thinking of passing. The venue is actually one of the attractions (Naeba Ski Area). Getting there is pretty easy, but it means you have to add transportation, accomodation, food, onsen, etc. on top of that 362+ usd. You're talking like 600+usd when it's all over...

I might go with Summer Sonic instead; line-up is more interesting and the venue (Makuhari) is much easier/cheaper to reach.

did you ever go to asagiri??
I meant to try that but missed it every year...its much more attractive at only ichi-man for the weekend...definetly more of a jam-band vibe, but I have heard its a good time...

Hilarious mix of "big in Japan" radio rock-pop - but names like The Deftones, Muse, DJ Shadow, Matisyahu, and of course Tool make that a muuuch better show imho.

Woohoo, be sure not to miss Hoobatstank, Fall Out Boy, All American Rejects, Hawthorne Heights, and The Cardigans!!!!!!!

Boyz II Men get the headline above KoRn?! WTF?!

This is truly a crazy world.
There are those who have not yet witnessed the glory of http://www.twistededge.co.uk. Those people suck.
