Ageia PhysX Processing Unit:
GameSpot is talking about the Ageia PhysX Physics Processing Unit, a processing unit dedicated to accelerating physically based simulation algorithms. According to the designers, a PC that can support 30-40 “active bodies†will be able to increase that number to 32,000 – 40,000 by using the Ageia PhysX PPU.
Your games are about to get a lot more interactive. Fabless semiconductor company Ageia has today announced PhysX, the world's first physics processing unit. The PhysX chip is a dedicated physics processing engine designed to coexist with the CPU and the GPU in existing desktop systems.
Ageia Interview:
Gamers Depot sat down with the folks from Ageia for a little interview action and talk about the PhysX PPU. The interview also some interesting quotes from different game developers at the end of the article that you should read and form your own opinion on.
What can you tell us about the hardware? i.e. who makes the chip, what size is it and what kind of thermals can we expect from it?
TSMC is the Fab for our PhysX chip. PhysX is tipping the scale at over 125 million transistors, with approximate total power consumption around 25 Watts.
Interesting item.

1.21 Gigawatts???!?!?!
Hmm, that sounds pretty cool. I still need to acquire various other upgrades before I begin to imagine having one of these handy dandy unhancements.
Dr. Is the offer we talked about on new years still on the table? I still need to come by your place to hang out either way. And now I have a new communications device which makes such arrangements so much easier.

I've had a lot of device input and output recently, so I'll check if it's still down in the ol' garage. If so, then the offer is still on. I just don't remember all of what's come and gone since then. I also have a nice i875 motherboard sitting around too. I'm going to build a lower-end system for the Augmonster, so perhaps we could arrange a trade for your old i845 board. Then you could go dual channel and such, and Aug would still have a P4 type motherboard.
