Suprnova -> Exeem P2P

Post by mistasparkle* »

Slashdot wrote:Exeem is a new file-sharing application being developed by the folks at SuprNova.org. Exeem is a decentralized BitTorrent network that basically makes everyone a Tracker. Individuals will share Torrents, and seed shared files to the network. At this time, details and the full potential of this project are being kept very quiet. However it appears this P2P application will completely replace SuprNova.org; no more web mirrors, no more bottle necks and no more slow downs. Exeem will marry the best features of a decentralized network, the easy searchability of an indexing server and the swarming powers of the BitTorrent network into one program. Currently, the network is in beta testing and already has 5,000 users (the beta testing is closed.) Once this program goes public, its potential is enormous.

I wonder how that will affect content monitoring. Seems extra illegal to be seeding and tracking.

That seems to be the "buzz" in that slashdot thread, but... it very well could be the next blockbuster P2P app/network.

Suprnova Closed!

Post by McNevin »

Greetings everybody,

As you have probably noticed, we have often had downtimes. This was because it was so hard to keep this site up!
But now we are sorry to inform you all, that SuprNova is closing down for good in the way that we all know it.
We do not know if SuprNova is going to return, but it is certainly not going to be hosting any more torrent links.
We are very sorry for this, but there was no other way, we have tried everything.

Thank you all that helped us, by donating mirrors or something else, by uploading and seeding files, by helping people out on IRC and on forum, by spreading the word about SuprNova.org.
It is a sad day for all of us!

Please visit SuprNova.org every once in a while to get the latest news on what is happening and if there is anything new to report on.

As we wish to maintain the nice comunity that we created, we are keppig forums and irc servers open.

Thank you all and Goodbye!
sloncek & the rest of the SuprNova Team
I wonder what affect this will have on the exeem software?

suprnova was too good to last...

Looks like they're down for the count.
Rumors are abound that they settled quietly with the MPAA, but I wonder how they'd even be within the reach of the MPAA. Strangely, Youseff's torrents, and torrentbits.org also got shut down this weekend. The big three all went down in one weekend. Somethings gotta be up, and it's not just the MPAA, because Youseff's was a france-based site. :wtf:

I'm just gonna hope that means they'll come back with Exeem.

Is it coincidental that this big torrent crack down is coming at Oscar DVD Screener time of year?

phoenix-torrents.com also went down.
they still have a chat only irc channel irc://irc.wikkedwire.com/phoenix-torrents

I got this link from the channel.

The related stories on this article talk about a lot of recent crack downs.

This is the second article I have read about crackdowns in BIttorrent, edonkey, and dirrectconnect.

Tyco on penny-arcade.com also talked about it today.

I am concered if sites that had trackers like phoenix torrents may have
logged ip's. Some of the trackers do.

There has been tons and tons ... and tons of talk about eXeem being the new way to use peer to peer.

We at LokiTorrent completely agree. The premise of eXeem sounds quite nice. The unfortunate fact remains that the once great people at suprnova are not in control of this application. Many of suprnova's higher-ups have left the once-great site as a result of this fact.

Touted as the savior of peer-to-peer, eXeem ended up becoming nothing more than a new version of KaZaa, cydoor spyware included.

Early warning of this began when news came out of eXeem being closed-source, a world-known indicator that someone has become too greedy and any chance of it being 'for the community' are forfeit.

We sincerely wish the people at suprnova the best in future endeavors, but it is apparent that signing up with an 'unnammed corporation' was the undoing of what could have been the 'next best thing' in peer-to-peer community sharing.
DOH!

eXeem site wrote:eXeemâ„¢ contains NO SPYWARE. eXeemâ„¢ is free and is ad-supported.
Is it confirmed they are liars?

yes indeed they are. Slashdot broke the story, but exeem is basically marketing on a good name. It was made by an unknown company that paid the owners of Suprnova to use their name to market. Technically it's really poorly implemented (e.g. it still uses some legal-fodder centralized server), and it's loaded to the teeth with spyware.
