Think about the poor fools that are on dial up with one phone line. I guess they figure if you have a nice enough computer to play the game you probably have broadband. That is just plain stupid thinking though. What about people on cellular connections in remote locatiosn that have to pay by the minute. They might be the biggest power-user gamers around but they won't be able to afford to play Half-life. Booo on Valve for that decision.
In other news I now own my very own HL2. Thank you Admiral McNevin.

Well, since we won't have any MP problems then, with everyone being all licensed up, we should play some MP as soon as something worthwhile becomes available. I can't believe that CS:Source is the only MP thing to do. I wouldn't mind running around some of the single player maps in HL mode multiplayer. I don't know why they didn't implement that. Oh well, we could get a nostalgic game of CS going some night. Maybe on the weekend?

It says on the Quick Reference Card that an "Offline Mode" is available after you use Steam to validate your cd-key if "Remember my password" is checked on the Steam login screen.
It will not be available if:
1. You do not select Remember my password
2. You choose to login in as a different user
3. You check "Don't save my account information on this computer" on the Steam account settings screen.

Ok... Until now, I was like... "Half-life engine schmalf-life engine... this doesn't look much better than Quake 2 (except the characters and pixel-shaders.)" (That was based on texture-quality and such early in the game, though the HDR lights and models were cool.)
Let me just say now, that RavenHolm (sp?) is quite possibly the coolest level that I've ever seen in a game. Wow!!! FraXZinG AmaZ0rinG!!! Oh the atmosphere, oh the grav-gun, weeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!
Anyone else been through RavenHolm yet?

Oh, to illustrate my Q2 point... Anyone else notice some of the little bleeps and bloops that held over from the old Quake 1.5 engine? I think the source engine is the same basic engine with a LOT of modifications. I could be wrong, but there are a lot of things in HL2 that scream Q1 Q2 Q1.5 HL1 etc.
So I return to the digital underground of computing after a few grueling weeks of school, only to find a full forum index of new posts and a game company that finally figured out a way to make people pay them money if they wanna play their game... I didn't think I'd ever live to see this. So has anybody organized a counter stike session as of yet? If this has already been answered, I apologize in advance as I haven't read much of anything. Missing three weeks on the forum is equivalent to missing three weeks of school. I'm almost feel like dropping the forum and retaking it next semester as I have no way in hell of catching up.

Fan-frickin-tastic!! I put a couple hours into it last night. Man how beautiful is this game? The scene where you're first running from the guards through the flop-house. Such atmosphere! And not just darkness! And how amazing are the player models? It is so cool how the eyes follow you as they speak. I have never seen such realistic facial expressions in a game. Damn it is good.

Yabbity Woohoozitz Yappow!!
This game is so freakin rad! Yes Raven Holm is incredible. And how fun is the gravity gun? Random thought - Raven Holm reminds me a little bit of the game Kingpin. Except with zombies and a million times cooler. Anyone else see that? Talk about a different feel from the first part of the game! It is so cool how seemlessly they linked them though.
Anyone getting close to beating it yet?

I'm playing through it again. I've got some souvenirs from the end of the game with me this time through. So fun. I did a little bit of cheating in the later portion of the game the first time through. (Don't have time to play the hard spots a million times over.) Now I'm cheating 100% on the second time through, and it is SSSSSOOOOO fun!!! Playing with all the toys instead of having to run from things while doing so. I'm going to try to build some Incredible Machine style Goldbergian devices! [TEE HEE HEE]
You should go buy it this very second. It's right up there with System Shock and System Shock2 as my favorite games ever. Excluding thing of totally different play styles, (like the Ultima series, etc.) Definitely a tip-top-game. I'm going to buy HalfLife Source to go with it, since I never played the first one past the first level. There are some questions I have now after playing the second. I'm also going through it again, both for the fun of the wacky things I'm doing, and to take a look at things more closely. There are major plot related things to pick up that I missed. There are articles on lab walls, pictures with people removed, subtle hints and clues that tell you what's going on. I read a timeline that fills in all the information over the course of the two games, and now I feel I need to play the first one. I don't like the ugliness of the old engine though, so it seems like a good idea to Steam myself HL:Source.
I cheated my way through the last half, and spent a few 4-5am nights playing. I think, played properly, and on an average person's schedule it would take longer. It would also still be worth it if you made it start to finish in the time that it would take to do that in a perfect game. (for example, without dying at all, getting lost, exploration, etc.) A few hours with this game is nearly worth the price alone. The Ravenholm level is totally worth the price too. If the game only consisted of that level, I'd pay for it. If they just gave you a test map with a bunch of objects and the gravity gun I'd pay full price. That should give you some indication.
MOTHER FUCK SUMA BITCH!!!!!!!! You can't just buy HalfLife:Source for a small fee on top of your HL2 purchase. You can only get it as part of an expensive package. What about the people who just bought HL2 at the store. They don't get to have it?!?!? What a bunch of bloody shite! I've got half a mind to march right into Valve since it's close by and demand it. How am I supposed to play the first one without it? First of all I refuse to play it on that old crappy engine. Second, I can't find my disc. I had the Game of the Year version with all the extra-schmextras and now it's gone. ARGH!!!!

Ohhh you know it!! Perfect timing actually. Finals next week so this weekend is pretty slow for me. Friday night is probably no good though. What about 4 or 5PM PST Saturday - AKA 9 or 10AM Sunday in Japan? I guess McNevin will be working - You buy it yet Beeeph? You down J3RK? Munxor? Have you joined the band wagon Goemon?
Yes. I will also play on Sunday night. I actually play it every night. I imagine a little MP will make me want to play it even more. I'm mid-way through my second go at single player right now. There are some interesting things going on in the game if you pay close attention to everything. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
I WANT HL:Source!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!
