While I would surely take either I just couldn't bring myself to vote for ATI.

Nvidia has become 3DFX...

Post by R3C »

Not only are they using the intellectual properties that they acquired with the 3DFX purchase in the 5800, but they are also applying their business practices, and too little too late product cycles. They screwed up, and until they are fully back on track, I will only use ATI products for my personal high-end applications. For secondary boxes GeForce 4s are my choice. Since I've been using my Radeon 9700 Pro, I have been wondering why I hated ATI so much. I have to remind myself that, oh yeah they had rotten drivers. The Catalyst driver series is every bit as stable, and quick as Nvidia's Detonators. You don't know how difficult it was for me to make that change of view. It definitely wasn't as easy as switching back and forth between Intel and AMD when one releases a better product. It was actually a fairly big decision. Weird stuff.

... also like to poop on the old drivers. I've been extraordinarily happy with my ATI card. The NV35 is pretty nice though, and it's got criznappy drivers. I installed the new official 43.45s on the 5800 Ultra, and it is fast as hell now. Teatering on being as fast as the 9700 Pro and 9800 Pro. The only drawback being the noise and price. I actually like the card itself. If it was cheaper, I'd get one, then put a heat pipe cooler on it, and it would be a silent, super fast NV card. 'twould be nice, but I think I'll stick with my 9700 Pro for now. Can't wait for the Catalyst 3.3 drivers. They are supposed to have huge performance increases for 9700s and above. I think Elsa was working on drivers for ATI now. I think Elsa was part of the reason that Nvidia had such nice drivers.

Rulzo0rs

Post by Bill Drayton Jr. »

The 9800 should rulz0rs over any Nvidia offering... I used to think that the Nvidia's were the best offering but they pretty much suck compared to Ati nowadays which is a bit of a surprise... I was especially impressed at the 2D clarity between the two manufacturerers.... I am running 1600x1200x32 on two 19" monitors! what a fucking dream!!!
