Bar XYZ(ed)!

Post by Goemon »

db: Funny you went to Bar XYZ. "Mr. Cxcxxne" also owns Bar Red (I believe "Red Red" is the proper name) in Roppongi which is just as seedy, but smaller and more open to the public. You may remember meeting there before we went to Womb in Shibuya that one night to see my friend Frido dj? While it is not my cup of tea (or pancake mix), I have been there many nights to meet friends who seemed to take long bathroom breaks while I nursed my drink and chatted with the barmaid.

Frido was also DJing at Bar XYZ all that same weekend so we went one night ; it is as sketchy as you describe it. Best part is the make-out lounge upstairs with fuzzy pillows everywhere. "Class" with a capital "K".

Funny that you met Rob Pongi too; he's "affiliated" with the Fucked Gaijin website I posted earlier.

Could it be that the bar you went afterwards was "The Nature"? 2nd floor, no windows, some good hip hop? I've had some good nights there, but didn't feel any stares...until I rapped along with the songs while doing my chicken dance.

I can't report of any late Roppongi nights recently. The past few weeks have been spent more at sayonara parties, concert/club events and the like. I expect that may change more in the coming weeks as people return to Tokyo from holiday. Still planning on having either a BBQ or just-drinks party at my place in the near future, so I'll keep you guys posted.

Anybody here read Hunter S Thompson? My toilet reading at the moment is his 'Songs of the Doomed' that has a section from his novel about Puerto Rico, 'The Rum Diaries'. It contains a description of a party that shares many of the elements of db's (godawful sounding) night out.

I used to have Saturday nights out like that in Osaka before my one day off. Coming home at 6 am knowing that Sunday was a write off was one of my bleaker memories from that period.

There's something groovy about safari nights where you find yourself dragged through a variety of habitats populated with exotic reptile life and unfriendly large mammals, but it grows wearying after a while.

Rob Pongi!!! You just gotta love a guy with class. Image

Damn db. You went all out huh? You remember that guy from Red? He bought you a drink I think and was trying to see if you wanted to go on a trip into the bathroom if I remember correctly.

Man, you know there is such thing as going out and having a blast without going ALL THE WAY out. It's all about moderation buddy. I think you need to fly me over so I can coach you on that. :D
