Dragon Age

Post by Bill Drayton Jr. »

So was trying to find an RPG to get sucked into. Was looking at AION but I don't like Japanese RPGs even though I think this AION is Korean.

What about Dragon Age? I think it is cool that it is single player only not just because you don't have to pay for a subscription but just cuz so many multiplayer games are out there. Is it sucking you in yet R3Cog|\|izal2??

I've only played it for 20 minutes, but it's already oozing cool, crisp, awesomeness like wizzenberry juice through my time passed veins.

It's supposed to have around 60-100 hours depending on play style, plus lots of DLC. It's not a sandbox-sort of thing like Oblivion. It's more story-driven, so a bit less exploration, but more important events going on, and quests to do.

I just got my W7 setup done, so I'll be jumping into it like an inquisitive monkey from the top of Grand Grund!

I'm maybe gonna give it a spin. The IGN review said 150+ hrs. Yipes.

150hrs? That is too long. If it were just a 1/3rd longer than MASS EFFECT that would be cool. Oh well, I bought it today anyway!

I don't think it's 150 even with DLC. So far I've been hearing 60-80 from real gamers. Granted these are gamer-freak people from the HardForum, so maybe 100 is a good number.

I'm really starting to like the game. It's a little less action-oriented than Mass Effect. Bascially, when you run into some enemies, you hit the space-bar to pause the action. You queue up the maneuvers that you want to do for each party member, and then it all happens when you unpause. Then you're back in real-time to where you can run around, then you pause again, queue up some more spells, attacks, healing, etc. and do it again. You can actually cast while moving around in real-time, but it's a lot harder this way, and a little less classic-RPGish.

The dialog has been great so far. I haven't come across any bad acting yet. The graphics are quite pretty, though maybe not absolute top-tier. (not everyone can be id, Epic, or Crytek I suppose) In fact, a few nice graphical effects and higher-end textures aside, I think I prefer the Mass Effect visuals to some degree.

I'm looking forward to getting into a more interesting area. I finally completed the training area, and I'm just making a thorough exploration of the tower that I start out in (talking to everyone, taking things, and learning things.) I think it will really pick up then.
