Picasa?
Google has released Picasa 2, a one-shot solution for photo management/editing/burning/etc. I am a bit hesitant to jump into it because it sounds like its target is the "don't know where I saved pictures on my cpu" crowd. Anyone tried it out yet? How does it compare to ACDSee?
I think I played around with Picasa 1 a while back...it reminded me of some other photo managment programs I fooled around with (can'tremember their names, point is they all seemed the same). I think the big idea with these is photo-tagging, like id3-tags for photos. I actually think it is a good idea and great way to get your photos organized and sorted...
oh yah...I think adobe makes something simliar...Photoshop Album...
edit....I have juts been playing with P2...and within 5 minutes all I have to say is wow...this progrtam does soooo much with such an incredibly easy interface it is shocking that it is free. I will definetly be playing around with this some more

holy crizzap!! If all windows software looked and worked as well as picasa does... noone would be impressed by a mac. Sweet jeebus... I can't believe they're giving this thing away for free. I loaded up my pic library and took a stroll down digi-cam memory lane. (which reminds me.. there are loads of good pics of all of us in Japan at various times that are worth posting in another thread sometime...)

but is it the iTunes of pictures? Does it take control of your hdd organization and picasaize it? Will I like it?
You gotta love the Google (& Mozilla) business model. Make extremely high quality stuff and make it free. Everyone would steal it anyway and if you can dominate the field then you control where people go to get their pictures printed, etc.

It isn't the "iTunes of pictures." (Even though iTunes can be set to not do hd organizing... but that's another argument altogether)
Picasa won't rearrange your hd, and it'll allow you to tinker with your beloved file-system to nerd's-delight.... but I don't see why you would want to touch your photo directory after going Picasa on it.
