Ok so now we are in the same boat...
I was looking for DX9C for you i clicked on an exe to see what it did, and boom, it replaced all my files to DX9C 2126, and I have build 2149.
You might try this, its what im going to do

HEE HEE HEE... Well, I'm leaving work in a minute to go get my 6800 GT. Seth's taking my X800, because he wants a faster video card for his PC, but he needs it to be quiet. The X800 is quiet. And if it's not quiet enough, I'm buying him a Zalman heat pipe for it. So basically he's buying me a 6800 GT and I bought him an X800 Pro. Wooooo!!! Now I can run some of my demos that only work with NV GL extensions! I'll let you know what I think of the card when I get it installed.
Got it! I got the -BFG 6800 GT OC-
It cost the same as all the others but it comes clocked higher by default. I haven't tried much yet, because I just got home. I'll report back later. The 2D quality is far above previous NV cards that I've had. Still not quite as sharp as ATI though. Oh well.
As far as the conversion and born again activity, the 9x00 series is way beyond anything from Nvidia of the same product cycles. If I didn't get a current gen card, I'd still be using ATI. I need to get used to the new drivers. They're way different than the old ones. I can't find some things that I used to use frequently. (Like some of the custom OpenGL buffer settings and such.)

Good ol' P2L97. Too bad you can't physically plug the X800 into the old AGP slot, I'd like to see what kind of numbers it got
Yeah, he's actually running:
ASUS i875 (latest rev)
P4 2.8C
Lynx Studio L22 Audio (best audio board available that doesn't cost $10000.)
SCSI (He needs it for stuff.)
That crazy cooler that I mentioned.
And now the X800.

He's getting DSL too. (because it's cheap to add to his phone line.) So, he'll be broadbanded as well. Interesting eh? Now if he could just do something about that busy signal.
Oh, and about the ATI/NV thing:
I have no brand loyalty. I get whatever works best for what I want to do. Some brands consistently do what I need, and some don't. Sometimes a brand that's becoming a standard for me slips a cycle or two. I used to run NV cards, because they did what I wanted, so of course I will recommend them to everyone. Then ATI took the lead, and I recommended them for everything. Now I'm recommending the 6800 cards for this cycle, unless you need something a little more quiet, which is why Seth was down to take my X800 and buy me the 6800 GT. The X800s actually do a few things better than the 6800, and it has more accurate color, and better 2D stability. The 6800 though, has the best OpenGL implementation, which is going to help me with Doom 3, and run all my demos in tip-top form.
Like I said before, I still recommend the 9800 Pro for last cycle cards.
Now where's D3, I want to get tore up.
Scene Event just occurred and has some of the most impressive releases that I've yet seen. Go to www.scene.org if you want to see any of them. The releases from The Kewlers, MainLoop, and Solar are amazing. If you want to show off your hardware at all, grab them.
I'm gonna lay down back, because our concussion had me sleepy.
WOW...
I'm glad I fracked up my Windows install. I reinstalled from scratch, installed all the latest drivers, and now my games are running around 50-100% faster. Normally you gain a little speed with a fresh install (though my last install was in April) but something must have been seriously wrong. I'm thinking all the ATI drivers (even though I cleaned them off,) left something behind or something like that. Eeeekkkk!!! Fast stuff. System also seems to be more stable now too, so I'm going to try and put my CPU clock rate back up high...

That could have been why my D3D was fuxored, but OpenGL was even worse. Now it's back up to where I'd expect. Quake 3 was running like crap on a 6800 GT, so I knew something was completely wrong, I just couldn't figure out what. I tried cleaning utilities, beta drivers etc. but nothing would fix it. A fresh install did though.
I usually run UT2004 at maximum detail, except I leave the character detail set to normal (since they move around too fast to see well anyway.) Well, I decided to crank all the settings all the way up, and the announcer said "holy shit" or something like that. I thought that was pretty funny. So, it's running at 85Hz sync now without dropping below in max detail. Even cbp-skorbut (the Chinese airship level) is running full blast. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!
Do you have every option maxed, and does it look like it's syncing every frame at 85Hz? If so, I'm thoroughly impressed, and disappointed at the same time Actually, it wouldn't even do that on the X800Pro I had, so I'm pretty sure I'm getting accurate results. It did look good, but wasn't totally synced. It would drop frames sometimes. Especially during big fights. The 6800 doesn't do it even when there are 12 bots flying around blasting things up though. Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! On the current setup, it looks smoother than say Dead or Alive 3 on the X-Box.
That's still excellent then. I was just surprised when I thought you were getting the same speed as I was. I was thinking something might be wrong again. For the first time in a while, I am completely happy with my performance, and features. I have no want of anything else for my computer currently. That's a nice feeling. That's how I felt right after I got the i875, P4 2.4C and the 9800 Pro. And that's how I felt after we Valeried up our Nforce systems. Ahhh, to be relaxed about my hardware. I don't have any plans for upgrades until the Dual Core Pentiums are released, whenever that is. Probably 6 months to a year I'd imagine. Then I'll get PCI Express, 1-2GB DDR2, new vid card, and the Dual Core CPU.
There are a few that go to Higher and Highest. Yeah, that was totally funny when I heard it. I guess you would have known if you were on highest settings, because it would have said "Holy Shit"
I'm doing a full system upgrade next year sometime.
Typing... slow... eating Quiche... mmmmmmm.... My lovely wife made one for me. Fresh herbs, carmelized onions... mmmmm.......
HEE HEE...
... just ate... 10" Quiche by myself..... mmmmmm....
