Get a Sparkle Power or a PC Power and Cooling supply. I've got a 420 or 480 from one of those companies that Seth gave me. It's quite the supply. I could probably stick it on the end of a lightning rod and it would still provide stable power. :D

You can always tell how good a power supply is by how much it weighs. If it is super light, it's a piece of crap and probably has the bent alluminum heatsink. You want one with proper cooling (a nice big heatsink, etc.) It should feel like it the size that it is. I've seen some that claim to be 350-400 that feel like they're made out of cardboard. A tiny piece of flat alluminum, bent a little bit for heat dissipation, and wires so thing they would probably catch your house on fire. Fortron makes good power supplies. When I get home, I'll let you know what mine is for sure. I just know it's one of the favored Seth brands for reliablity, stable power, proper cooling, and quietness.

I played UT 2004 by myself last night damnit!!! I would have joined you guys if I had known. If you're playing tonight, (probably late as I will be out for a while,) let me know and I'll kill all of you!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAH HAHAHA aH HAH A h ah yeah....

:D

Just give me the classic text message or something.

Oh, by the way, what resolution and detail levels are you able to use on your shiny new setup?

I'm running 1280x1024 VSync with all options maxed (except I leave the characters at normal.)

I gave Inferno a quick whirl since it's one of the more complicated, and it never dropped below sync. It was silky smooth. I need to reinstall Q3A and TA.

I read (in a forum, so who knows how accurate,) that they are going to do some preview matches with Quake 4 at QuakeCon like they did with Doom 3 last year. I hope that's true, because that means we should have Q4 within a year or so.

My power supply is the 400W FortronSource/SparklePower (same company) with power factor correction. Seth has the same thing, but his has the fan on the bottom of the unit instead. (He wanted to do some wacky airflow routing to get it quieter.) His fan also glows blue and mine does not. You can get them at NewEgg and ZipZoomFly among other places. They're quite nice.

Adjusting the ram voltage seems to have fixed the problem.

However i didnt re install ut04...

To test i did a sisoft sandra memory test while copying a cd to the hard drive. No reboots, so i guess its fixed.

I still want that power supply though.

Excellent. Yeah, you might need the power supply. Raising the RAM voltage may have just brought it up to normal voltage, (in which case, your power supply might be spread a little thin.) The RAM should work at default voltage. Unless the MB supply is the problem. It shouldn't be though since it is a newer board.

Think I'm going to do a round-about CPU upgrade. Upgrade three people at once. :D

Oh, just thought of something. If it's the motherboard not supplying the voltage that it says it is, then maybe your power supply is fine. The motherboard could be fine, just off a little in its voltages. If that's the case, then you could just leave the voltage up. What does the voltage say in the Health/Temps BIOS menu? Is it the same as what you have it set to?

I think the motherboard is fine, because it just rebooted again!

So i guess were back to blaming the power supply...

You shouldn't overlook the RAM. If playing with the RAM settings seemed to make a difference then maybe something is screwy. Hell, didn't the dude tell you that they were having problems with mismatched RAM on that board? Take out one fo the sticks and see if it is stable.

And then get a new PS anyway...

UT? :ninja: see l8r thread

Wait, are you using mismatched RAM and attempting dual channel? That quite possibly is what the problem is. Sell a stick, and get a matching one.

That's what he did :D and why I have a gig now, but the matching stick wasn't an e.x.a.c.t. match.

Just ordered my 2.8C. Choki then receives my 2.4C. Then a guy I work with receives Choki's 2.4. Wooooo Woooooooo!!! I love trickle down upgrading. Choki, it would be wise for you to eventually upgrade your RAM to DDR400, (2X 512MB PC3200.) Then your system would be uber-fasten ja? For both gamery, and appery alike...

My pc's clock looses 10 minutes in like an hour? What is that?

The ram sticks are almost identicle.

I have these two the only difference is one is single sided and one is double. Think that matters?

That is most likely your problem. Single and Double sided makes a lot more difference than you might think. They call each side a row. I've had boards in the past that would not accept certain amounts of rows. So you could have X amount of RAM, and X amount of rows, but not X amount of RAM in Y amount of rows. Retarded stuff. I can see why it would cause a problem with dual channel though. Most dual channel boards are synchronous in the way they access the RAM, so the timing is pretty important. In fact, your board may not even be running in dual channel right now, because if I'm not mistaken, the NForce will detect the SPD, and if the memory isn't the same, it defaults back to single channel mode. (But still uses the extra memory.) In this case, I'd be more worried about matching the RAM up than getting another PSU. If you have a -good- 300W, I wouldn't worry that much. You probably still should eventually get another one, but the RAM is more likely. Do you know anyone that you could borrow identical DDR400 from for testing reasons? Or someone that has a big PSU to try? Might save you a little money.

Wow what a decision... it took me forever to decide.

So I ended up going with the 400W Fortron Source!

I read a lot of good reviews on it, and Seth’s endorsement weighed pretty heavily.

Excellent. It's the best power supply I've ever had. I just plain never worry about power issues. It's a power supply well suited for -Master Control-

Northwood 2.8C... Wooooo Wooooo! You gots da flows too, with that one.

So the spd for my ram at 400 is 3-4-4-9 for regular, and 3-4-4-8 for high performance. When you put it to 333 the spd changes to 2.5-3-3-6, which is correct.

400 3.0, 333 2.5, 266 2.0 and so on... Just to be wacky, i set it to these rediculous settings

Speed 400, voltage 2.7 (spec is 2.5) and timings 2.5-3-3-6

Its been playing ut2004 for 3 hours, with these settings, and with no reboots. The only downside is that the CPU is at 139deg F. But I was playing a game, and that is well below 190.

Prescott P4s get up to around 140 during use, and drop to 115ish when idling. So, I wouldn't worry too much about that temp. If you start seeing any wackiness, then perhaps a big copper cooler is in order?

You realize you just released nasty phosphors into the environment by tossing that monitor don't you? Now they will seep into the ground, and we'll all die a slow and painful death. :D

I want a god damned flat panel!!! That should be my next upgrade. I want a nice digital in the 18"+ range. That would make me unbelievably happy. I stare at enough CRTs at work all day. Would be nice to come home and look at something easy on the eyes.
