Doom 3

Post by R3C »

I've just decided that Doom 3 is fun again. I've been playing online all evening. We should arrange a good 4-6 player match. I'll serve. I'll see if I can grab a CTF mod for it too.

I'm promoting Doom 3 into my top 5 favorite (single player) games of all time. I'm in Delta Labs right now, and I have a renewed appreciation for this game. Not quite sure why some people don't like it. It's incredibly immersive. It has about as simple a control scheme as it gets (which means you forget it quite quickly.) The atmosphere just oozes into the brain. I'm playing it using the Narcoza mod. which balances the weapons the way they were in Doom (original,) uses better weapon sounds, modifies a few things graphically and gameplay-wise. I play it in my little upstairs game-nook with headphones, and it brings me almost (though not quite,) into the state I get in when playing the System Shock games. I'm pretty sure when BioShock ships in a few months that it will knock D3 back out of the top 5, but still...

I was impressed with the game when I first got it, and am more impressed now. After playing other games based on the same engine (even Quake 4,) I've determined that the art and design of D3 are somewhat more interesting. (Still like the Quake universe a little better though.)

Anyway...

I also just finished SIN Ep1, and am knee deep in the HL2:Ep1. SIN wasn't bad, but not great either. HL2:Ep1 is quite fun though. I'm still playing D3 more than anything else though.

Yes, have finished QIV, and most of the way there again. (I've been playing SP between our MP matches a wee.)
