Ahhh-motherfraXinG-YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I picked up the: http://www.coolermaster.com/index.php?L ... per%206%2B
(CoolerMaster Hyper6+)
CPU is at 105F at idle, and never gets over 130F under load. Perfect!
Second ahh yeah, is that I got my second GT installed!
Well, I haven't done real benchmarks, and I don't have time to do it tonight, but I did try a couple of games.
Doom 3:
Plasma Lights turned on.
Player Shadows turned on.
1600X1200
Ultra Quality
8x Anisotropic on.
Never drops below sync even during heavy fights. (even tried a few boss levels on the expansion pack.) AMAZING!!!!
Far Cry:
Maximum Quality for all settings.
8x Anisotropic on.
1600x1200
I didn't see it drop below sync while I was playing.
I'll post more tomorrow when I try everything out. I don't have any 3D Marks installed, but I'll put on 2005 and get a couple of numbers.

Good god! Youre giving me quite the run for my money. I mean that literally, ive spent alot! Congrats on the Tearin Ass Machine, mark 5
Ok... so im drunk, just thought id warn you. Aparently I can overclock better that way since...
I actually got into windows @ 240x10, yes thats 2.4Ghz! To the average joe, it would appear that im am stable. Since i can run games and shit. Unfortunatly im not "Prime Stable" as they call it. Prime95 errors out in a few secconds. Some prime number benchmark. I would be Prime stable if this damn MB would actually RUN AT THE VOLTAGE I SELECT IN THE BIOS!!!111oneoneone
Just a wee bit of voltage would do the trick. But no! I set the bastard to 1.55V, get into windows, check the voltage whats it say 1.45.
DOH! so that is why I bought a Venice, because it uses less power, hopefully i can then finally be prime stable. Now if it would hurry up and get here!
Oh how i want to install the XP-90c...
I <3 you xp-90c...
*passes out*

That's funny, because I was drunk when I posted this last night [TEE HEE HEE]
Have you noticed that our coolers look like small gas engines? Hmmm... That's the next phase in cooling. Gas powered cooling!!! We route the exhaust through a pipe to the outside. Put a gas tank in the front of the case. Wooooooo!!!!
I'm going to install GTASA, then I'll install 3DMark05 and do a quick bench.
So can you get 1.55 by cranking the voltage up a bit more?

I just did, but its maxed and its still not enough. However i can now run prime95 for 2 or so hours until it finds a misscalculation (good compaired to 2 seconds)
We are reading 1.5v in windows presently, pretty sure 1.55 would do the trick.
At 1.5v, (2.4GHZ) CPU idles @ 104F, after 90 min of 100% utilization it was at 122F. Another .05v and all probably be right around you at 130.

Hmm... Seems as though I have some thermal issues still. The CPU is definitely cooler, but the case temp is a lot higher than I'd like. Weird things happen if I play a demanding game for prolonged periods. I'm going to need to put an exhaust fan in somewhere. There's not a place for one currently, so I think I'm going to have to do some cutting.

No exhaust fan!?! What kind of case is that?
IF you can, you should go for the 120MM case fan. So quiet, and so effective!
Or maybe just get one of these

It's the big fat black/clear door Cal PC Blaster 9,800,453. It has two 80mm Panaflo intake fans on the front. My PSU has a 120mm fan on the bottom that suck heat up and spits it out the back (sort of an exhaust fan, but not directly.) I have the Hyper 6+ on the CPU with 80mm fan blowing upward toward the PSU fan. One would think that that would do it, but perhaps not. I may also be having PSU issues.
I saw a comparison of power consumtion for SLI setups. It basically said that 2 GTs used only slightly more power than a single Ultra. The power requirement for a single Ultra is 350W. I figured my 400W would work ok (if those sources were accurate.) I may need a bigger PSU.
I'm getting an occasional crash, (which I think is caused by heat buildup, but it may also be a lack of power.)
Hmmmmm... Nice fan case

Yes.. now I remember you having the sethinator case. Duh.
You would think that all that cooling you have would do the trick, guess not...
Maybe it is power related. I'm about to go dork rage over the power problems im having with my MB. You would think that the MB not putting out the power that you set in the BIOS would warrent a BIOS patch. This MB came out in Dec/Jan and they still havnt fixed it. Now I understand that it works correctly at stock speeds, but people buy motherboards from MSI to overclock, am I right?
The latest BIOS patch goes so far as actually removing the option to even select 1.5v or 1.55v for the VID. Which aparently makes even the Venice not overclockable. Essentially breaking more stuff than it fixes.

Nice graph
Yeah, I'm thinking it's mostly power. It DOES get hot in that case, (I have a plan for that,) but we'll see. The thing is, it pretty consistently crashes about 15-20 minutes into a game. To me that either means that it's heating up by that time, or it's already pushing the power limits and all it takes is 3 extra polygons in a frame to make it "go crazy" Don't mind if I doooooooooo!!!! Gimme the bat!
It's heat or power making my computer something something.
I'm going to remedy the power situation today. The case ventilation needs a bit more thought and planning.

Just picked up an Enermax Noisetaker 495P-VE: http://www.enermax.com/products_page.ph ... 18&Gid2=46
Hopefully that will help both of my possible problem scenarios. My other PSU has a single 120mm fan on the inside of the case, sucking the air up, and sort of blowing it out the back. This PSU has two fans, one on the back, and one inside. They only turn on at certain temps too, so if I'm not playing games, they should be quiet. It's got dual 12-volt rails, 6 pin connectors for my video cards, etc. etc. etc. It's also blue.
If I was having power issues, I won't be now. Hopefully it will help with the cooling too. We'll see. This is quite possibly the heaviest power supply I've ever picked up.

Hah! You said connecter!
I wanted one of those Ultra modular ones. They have a mirror finish in Platinum, Black, and Blue (I like the Blue one,) and have modular connectors. The problem is, they only have them with the 20pin power connector, and they don't have the 6pin power for the vid-card. This Enermax that I got is Blue, but not mirror finish.

Well, sucks to all this Newcastle business. Just ordered a Venice 3200+. My Newcastle worked fine when it didn't have 2 hot video cards sitting directly below it, but now when I play a game, it heats up REALLY fast. My Venice will be here tomorrow if all goes well. (Ordered next day, so hopefully NewEgg will ship it out today.)
Yes, they are 92mm. So I'm wondering how people are running at 2500MHz and up, at 1.4-1.5 air cooling and not getting above 50c under load. I'm pretty close, but my temps are a tiny bit higher, and I can't get my clocks up that high. (I haven't played with all of the BIOS settings yet, so there are still billions of things to try.) I only played with it for around 20 minutes yesterday (had several people over.) Tonight I have nothing but time to play with it.
Got tired of running out of HD space. Just picked up a 250GB Barracuda 7200.8 SATA (With NCQ) Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!
That's one fast and quiet drive.
I've got so much to do when I get home. I have to find stable and high clock speeds, I have to install this new drive, then I have to wait for about 60GBs to copy over to it from my old D drive. Bleh...
McNevin: have you whirled your proc yet?

Picked up a couple of Zalman 80mm fans for the front of the case today. The Panaflows are nice (an' they gots tha flows,) but they don't push enough air. I've got the CPU idling at 105-109, but if I move a bit more air through the case, I should be able to get it to drop a little more. I also got a small fan that I'm going to run at half-speed that will move air through the fins on the end of my chipset heat-pipe.
Here is a pic of my board:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ShowImage ... 207-01.jpg
Adding a little fan back by the heat-pipe fins to push air out.
I'll also be running two of these in a few days:
http://www.arctic-cooling.com/vga2.php?idx=40
I think that should solve all of my thermal problems. I may even be able to put the Panaflows back in so I can have tha flows.
I am now a happy camper, who can play his damned Orz games. (Insert Orz music here: Doo De Do Do Doo Do Doo Do Dee Do Doo Doo)

My God, J3RK! With hardware like that, we could definitely fuck Cohagen for good! We could really fuck up Dick Jones too!
When I return to the wastelands in a couple months, I'll be looking upgrade everything except my RAM and audio. What are your predictions for video card prices around early august?
Yo McNevin!!!

Yo McNevin!!!
Prices should be a little lower. The 7xxx series is going to be released next week, so I imagine the 6xxx series will drop a bit. Especially over the next couple of months.
That was my whole plan. Cohagen needs to be fucked good. Sigma bastard!
Just bumped the clock up to 2500MHz. Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!
Still a little warm, but not too bad.
