Does anyone have Riddick?

Post by R3C »

Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay (PC version?) It's by StarBreeze (makers of Enclave) and formerly Triton (demo group.) Supposedly it's quite the amazing game, and I'll have it now thank you! :D If no one has it, I guess I'll have to get it the old fashioned way. $$$

I have it for Xbox but haven't given it a whirl. I have heard it is pretty good. I'll keep an eye out for the PC version.

Saw the torrent recently on digital-update in the PC releases section.

New version of azeurus came out the other day. If you dont have the java runtime installed, try ABC Yet another bittorrent client.

I like McNevin Express. :D Anyway, I'm liking this game better than Half Life 2. Well, maybe not in all aspects, but I've been thoroughly enjoying it. I would recommend it highly to anyone silly enough to have not taken my last recommendation of the System Shock games. I'm guessing I'm about 75% of the way through it. It's maintained it's fun levels the entire time. There were a couple spots in HL2 where I just wanted the section to be over, so I could get to a better part. This game hasn't had one of those sections yet.

Make sure you use Shader Model 2.0. There is an option for 2.0++ which supports cards like the X800 and 6800, but it's buggy right now. All it does is add support for soft-shadows. There are still shadows in 2.0, and no other image quality difference. The graphics are amazing, and it runs very fast. (Which is what I'd expect from a former demo crew.)

3nder: You need the PC version. It's a standard FPS control type of game. Gamepads will equal no fun with this.

Wow! Just hit a couple areas that are supposedly not in the X-Box version. Amazingly fun! This game has steadily gotten better as I've played it. I'm going to go so far as to definitively state that I like it better than Half-Life 2. Good stuff.

[spoilbox]One of the areas I just went through, allows one to hop into one of the mechanized guard suit with mini-guns, and tromp through a whole area. I guess you don't get to do that on the X-Box[/spoilbox]

Here's my ranking for the FPSes of last year:

Doom 3
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay: Developer's Cut
Half-Life 2
Far Cry
Unreal Tournament 2004

Here is where they fit into my top 10:

System Shock
System Shock 2
Quake III
Doom 3
Chronicles of Riddick: Escape from Butcher Bay: Developer's Cut
Half-Life 2
Far Cry
Unreal
Quake 1
Wolfenstein 3D (original)

Below these are things like the Hexen and Heretic games, the original Doom games, older Unreal Tournament games, Half-Life, etc.

There are a lot of 3rd person games that would fit in between some of those entries, if I was going to make an expanded shooter list. Things like FAKK2, Alice, StarWars shooters, Max Payne, etc.

Boy I better get my hands on that game then.

Here is my top 10 favorite 1st person shooters based on how much fun I had with them when they were new:

1. Half Life 2
2. Doom / Doom II
3. Quake 3 (multiplayer incl TA, other mods)
4. Quake
5. Half-life (incl. multiplayer / CS / other mods)
6. Battlefield 1942
7. Unreal
8. Heretic
9. Wolf3D
10. Aliens Vs. Predator 2 (such great multiplayer battles)

With close runners up being Spear of Destiny, Rise of the Triad and all UT games.

And since we are on the subject:

1. Azurik
2. Mario 64
3. Tomb Raider
4. Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
5. Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
6. Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
7. Legacy of Kain - Soul Reaver 2
8. Max Payne
9. Shadows of the Empire
10. ...? Mario Sunshine?

How about top 10 Fighters?

2. Dead or Alive 3 (Xbox)
3. Street Fighter 2 (SNES)
4. Mortal Kombat 2 (SNES)
5. Marvel vs. Capcom (Arcade)

If we're including other genres than just action/shooting, I can't compress them into a top 10 for third person :D

So I'll include action/platform/shooting:

Mario 64
Enclave
Alice
Heavy Metal: FAKK2
Prince of Persia: Sands of Time
Max Payne
Star Wars: Jedi Outcast
Max Payne 2
Nocturne
Heretic 2

So then I'd have to continue with RPG:

System Shock
System Shock 2
Ultima 8
Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Azurik
Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Ultima 7 (Complete + Expansions)
Dungeon Siege
Diablo 2
Blood Net

And then Adventure:

Quest for Glory: So You Want to be a Hero
Quest for Glory 2: Trial by Fire
Quest for Glory 3: Wages of War
The Omnicron Conspiracy
Sam and Max Hit the Road
Maniac Mansion 2: Day of the Tentacle
Leisure Suit Larry 3: Passionate Patti in Pursuit of Pulsating Pectorals
Leisure Suit Larry 6: Shape Up or Slip Out
Indianna Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

I want to do a big "Retro" list, but that would take a long time to think about, and compile. It would cover a lot of systems, and probably consist mostly of C64 games. :D

Just finished it. Wow! I am one happy gamer. There is a ton of stuff that I only half completed too. Gonna have to go back and see what happens with a bit of it. This is the only game I've played lately (besides System Shock) that is paced so perfectly, that I wasn't even tempted to cheat once. I cheated about half way through Half-Life, just to push on a bit quicker. Same thing with Doom 3, and the last few levels of Far Cry. When I have money again, I'm going to go buy a copy, purely because I approve so much of this game, its design, and execution. It's nigh on perfect for a pure action game.
