I use it at work to bypass some of the ie filters. I still have websense to deal with though.
I really like it, i get to work and open my favorites, go to my daily read folder, and select "open all in tabs" and tada, all my daily sites open in one browser, all in their own little tabs.
Tabs are the wave of the future!
Sure beats using the IE 5.0 they have us using at work, pages dont even display right.

The tabs are the only thing I'm missing. SP2 took care of pop-ups, so I'm happy about that. The tabs are the only thing I find appealing about a 3rd party browser, but it's not worth installing one, and having two browsers installed. Having two browsers is inefficient. If one could completely remove IE without ill effects to Windows, then I might consider it, but so many things in Windows count on IE being there. It's mostly one of my little standard J3RK psychological issues, but it's an unavoidable one. I'd be a bit generic if I didn't have all these little "issues."

That was a pretty on topic post right there. There's no flavor in the on topic forum.
J3RK, you are most defintely DEFINITELY in the minority of "power users" that don't think Firefox is a considerably better browser than IE. Even if (gasp!!!) you have to install it. What kind of lazy crap is tha?. It is better software and creates a much much much better computer using experience. We may disagree about where to play emulators, which I can respect, but reluctance to use software that is considerably well recognized as being superior is just pure stubborness.

Look at that, you provoked me into posting in the forum-speak trashy forum again before my boycott was finished. Hmm, maybe I'll start monkeying up the topical forum, since it doesn't do that. Create some large-scale work for you.
It's nothing to do with pure laziness. It's the fact that I DO NOT WANT TWO BROWSERS INSTALLED! Period. I don't use two graphics editors, I don't use two audio editors (and if there was something I was going to have multiple versions of it would be that,) and I don't have more than one emulator for any one system. Unnecessary redundancy. Like I said, IF I COULD REMOVE IE FROM WINDOWS WITH NO ILL EFFECTS TO WINDOWS, I WOULD USE A BETTER BROWSER. As it stands, IE can't be removed without effecting Windows. And no, the experience would not be significantly better for me. Yes, the tabs might be cool, and that's the one feature I'm missing, by not running another browser. I could not care any less about any other feature though. I still use a command line, or the run command, to launch most of my apps. When I run debuggers at work, I launch the commands from a command line rather than click on an icon, select the debuggers I want to run, and click "start." I still launch my stress passes from the command line. I still visit my daily sites, one site at a time, and rather than use bookmarks, I type the URL for every site I visit. I rarely use a mouse, unless I'm moving a window, playing a game, or using an application. Another browser would not help me in the least. The only reason I can see any of those features being useful, IS PURE LAZINESS. I like the keyboard. I like the keyboard Sierra games better than the point and click ones. Laziness couldn't be further from the case. It's personal taste, silly psychological hangups, and "Flavah" that keep me doing things that way I do them. I really don't think anyone on here is in the position to tell me how I should do things. With a few exceptions, I've been doing this stuff longer than anyone here, and I think after 22 years of solid computer using, I'd know what suits me.

Those are utilities, not applications.
Nobody expects one to do photo editing or production art in Paint. It's more for screenshots, image previewing etc. Notepad is used more for editing system files, and a large sized clipboard. So nyah. They can also be deleted without causing major Windows functionality to cease working.

If you look at my HDD, you'll see that it makes perfect sense, whether or not it fits with your personal taste. Most likely it wouldn't, but anyone who browses through my HDDs, has never asked me where I keep something, or why something is installed. Because it makes sense.
Over the years, it seems like we've created some standards, that most of us go by. The storage, or stuff, or zips folder for instance.
The only thing anyone ever complains about when they attempt to use my computer, is either A. Lack of codecs, or B. That I use IE. IE works fine for me. It does everything I want it to do. If I had any complaints, then maybe I'd go with something else, but I don't, so why should I. I'm not someone that would open up all my daily reading all at once. (Besides, most of that gets done at work anyway.) I only keep the Divx codec on my computer, because if it isn't MPEG or Divx, I don't want it.
I just find it funny that so many people try so hard to get me to use something I have no use for. It's not like I don't know what it's all about. I know what it's all about, and I STILL don't use it. I could see trying to talk some computer illiterate person, or someone that can use a computer, who just isn't on top of things into using a cool utility, browser, etc. McNevin talked me into getting back into the newsgroups, and I love it, but I knew what it was all about, and finally decided that it was the easiest way to get things. (It wasn't for some time.) I know all about third party browsers, and I don't feel like using them.
I try to tell people about new or cool things, and will even try to talk them into using them fairly forcefully, but once they finally say, no, I don't want to use that, and this is why... I let them go about their business. Now, you can poke fun at me all you want, but I'm about done hearing about all the reasons why I shouldn't use what I'm using.

Another example, is PhotoShop. I like the early versions, like 2.5 and 3, because they do everything that I need from them, but aren't huge, and don't have a lot of clutter and features that I'd never touch. There are those that agree with me on that one. Though I think most people here wouldn't. Why should I install Gigantor Photoshop 4500, when 2.5, 3, or 4, will work just fine, for me to either crop an image, draw with the line tool, or airbrush? I don't like software that is outdated to the point of not having features that I'd use. I use all the latest audio and sequencing tools. Know why? Because I make use of all of the new features. It benefits me to have the latest and coolest in that department. The one thing I wanted IE to have was an internal popup blocker. Guess what, it has one now, so I'm happy with it.

I am 120% winrar. I even use it to browse my hdd. (j/k)
It is a shame, because you actually don't know what you are missing. The PC experience is better with a better browser. 80ish % of my computer time is spent looking at a browser so a greatly improved one makes a big difference. I also have to take issue with calling word processing sw, image editting sw, and compression sw utilities, but a browser an application. They're all built in. I would consider the compression def a utilitiy but not the other 3. I would consider a browser a utility (an I'm sure MS wants you to) before image editting or word processing.
The real shame is that now that you have come out so strongly on this issue you will likely never give an alt browser the chance it deserves.
Enough of this. I seriously doubt I have ever talked you into anything.

You aren't doing a very good job of reading. I called paint, notepad, and wordpad utilities.
You must have a fairly low opinion of my intelligence. I also don't spend 80% of my time on a computer in a browser. I spend very little time in a browser actually. I spend my time playing games, and making music. Not really much of a need for an extra browser there is there?
I use APPLICATIONS like Word to write technical docs, resumes, and test cases. I use UTILITIES like notepad, to edit .CFG or .INI files.
I know exactly what I'm "missing" with another browser, but it's obviously not something I NEED, or I'd be using it. I'm not trying to be stubborn here, or play my usual game of Devil's Advocate. I REALLY DON'T NEED ANOTHER BROWSER. I'm well aware of all the features, and all the nifty things that I'd never use, but that's just it. I'd never use them. I'm not on the web when I'm at home, except to maybe hop out, and grab a cheat, or look something up really quick. My browser is almost never open. I browse at work, but I don't have time to do more than open a page, and read it for a minute. Or make a quick post or five on a forum.
I don't know how I could make my point any clearer, and have you understand that I understand what it's all about.

If I needed another browser anywhere, it would be at work. But even then, I don't need it. You've done a good job of making your point, with the exception of confusing my fairly clear points on the difference between the Word/Notepad, IE/Firefox attempted analogies. Choki has been trying to get me to use it for a while too. You know what though, nobody has told me one thing that makes me think, oh, that's so cool, I have to install it right now. The only reason most of the people like Choki and Rixler want me to install it, is so they can use it when they're at my house instead of IE because that's what THEY are used to.

Who the hell hasn't seen Office Space? I feel more sorry for them. Boy if someone here was using IE AND hadn't seen Office Space... yipes!
Don't think I don't have respect for your intelligence. I misunderstood your point that notepad is a utility and Word is an application.
Besides, it is obvious that you only use IE because you work at Microsoft.

I still use explorer. I had a class that required me to use firefox for about 4 months everyday because explorer didn't load the page correctly, but that was the only case in thousands of cases where that was the case. And as soon as I was finished with that class and had become very comfortable with firefox, I still went back to using explorer. For what I need it to do, it does a great job. Plus, I can rest assured that it's installed on every computer I'll ever use for browsing the internet.
Not only do I use explorer, but I didn't think Office Space was all that funny, or certainly not on the level the you guys think it to be. So there
