Hey McNevin. Good stuff inside...

I don't know if you've been following this emulator, but it's one that I know you will enjoy to the fullest extent that you can enjoy something. There isn't a lot that doesn't work under it either.

DOSBOX!!!! Woooo Wooooooo!!!

It works with most protected mode software, and will even run Windows 3.1 :D

You can mount any folder on your HDD as a drive. You can map CDROMs, and it works with your first joystick. (I wish it supported two, but it doesn't as far as I can tell.)

For support, and compatibility reports and things like that, go to:

There is also a nice front-end called Boxer. It's linked on the main DOSBox page. It allows you to graphically set what hardware is emulated, what memory types, and command line options for the game/app you're running. NICE STUFF...

The one thing that I wanted it for wouldnt run with it.

A lot has happened since you tried it. It runs nearly everything. It will play syndicate, Ultima 8, all the Sierra games, Lucas games, etc. It will play all the Doom games, but those are better played in Windows with a sourceport. Let me know if it doesn't work. I'll be surprised. There are a few problem games. For those, check the support forum.

Just increase the CPU cycles. I usually use 8192 or 9000ish. I think it's CTRL-F12 or CTRL-SHIFT-F12 or something like that. You can also set it in the config file.

Don't know if you knew about this either:

http://sc2.sourceforge.net/

Get the files, get the remixed music, manually map your joystick buttons in the config file. (It puts the config file in your Documents and Settings folder under Application Data. (The one in the game folder doesn't work.))

I just got a savegame editor too. (Going to use it to get a little more cash, so I can go exploring a bit.)

SpiderMonxey and I just started a game, and it's quite fun. It's the 3DO version of the game, but you can customize it with things from the PC version, (like text instead of speech) and things like that. I suggest you set it all up nicely, with scanlines, joystick, remixed music, and you'll have a nice fun long game to play. Oh, and Super Melee is really cool too. I have the Joymaster set up for dual play. I've been to busy to create a Melee fleet though. Once I do that, it will be a lot more fun.

I couldn't be happier with that either. I've been following this one too. http://pentagram.sourceforge.net It's like http://exult.sourceforge.net but for Ultima 8 instead of the 7 series. You should go get Exult, the music packs, and give it a whirl. You can have scanlines, OGG music, it has an extensive cheat menu and game-world editor. We could actually make games based on the U7 engine. Pentagram is going to be insane when it's done. Looks like they have most of the components in place. I guess you can walk around the world, converse with all the people, you just can't fight yet, and a couple other things.
