... with the recent influx of Jim and Tom Foolery, only the core monkey-set seems to be posting. Where did the overseas monkeys disappear to?
Which brings me to another topic. Diablo 2 and the playing thereof. Anyone in the world can join in when we're playing. I don't know if the time difference would impact it, but we usually play late at night. PST So go out, get a cheap copy of the Battle Chest so you have the expansion and start playing. Damn it!

I don't know what has happened to the Jp.Monkeys? The in person contact is pretty high right now. It is golden week so things are kinda hectic with people traveling/not being at work/etc. But Ocean has disappeared, db is moving, and apparently the others aren't so interested in 3D video card technology, l2icks0r, or SCSI.
Kinda strange but have you noticed how many discussions right now are crossing over multiple threads?

You know, some of it may have to do with our extreme posting frenzy lately and the overwhelming amount of thread titles that have no real description. Let's sample:

Not to pick on any particular posting style. I don't want to be thought of as "policing" the forum or as a "topic nazi" but certain threads like "RIXLER..." could be titled something like "Good site for streaming techno" or something and they might appeal to a larger audience.
Didn't we used to use some little code on our emails like d(O.O)b or something for moneky mail. What am I thinking of here.......?????

My 2 reasons:
1. I'm busy-as-fuk before I go to thailand
and..
2. alot of threads have been topic-morphing to inside jokes lately... can't keep up with teh monkey lair.

I think that essentially, the problem is a lack of Jo2Fro2.
Of course, the fact that some of us Seattle folk are stuck at work at the same time may be somehow contributing to this mysterious inside joke condition.
too much organization...

..been down at bear creek studios recording drum tracks for 2 new JWB hits. As a matter of fact, my drums were setup where Matt Cameron recorded his drums for the Bad Motorfinger album. AND, his drum tech throughout the sound garden days (and the maker of his signature snare drum, which he still plays today with Pearl Jam) came down to the studio on the first day, tuesday, and we played around with my drums and a trillion mic's for about 5 1/2 hours, trying out all kinds of mic sounds and positions in this gigantic wooden room. It was awesome.

... inside jokes are just plain silly. If you like silliness, then I think some degree of value can be extracted from say:
HAW Flake discussion. (The term HAW-Flake is funny in and of itself.)
The rest seem to be a mishmash of Fensler Film GIJoe and Adult Swim quotes.
Anything else is us just being silly. Anyone can be silly. I like anything silly that I see on here.
Conversations evolve. Try speaking to someone in person while staying on one topic... You don't start threads in real conversation. Conversation stems from a topic, but doesn't necessarily stay on one path. If I look at any of the threads, you can tell why they went the way they did.
Once again, there should be a separated Lair for people that like to babble while they're at work or bored or whatever, if it is viewed as a problem.
Here's the thing. I've actually been enjoying the lair lately, if that's any indication. It was getting totally boring for a while and my post count sunk below 1 per day. Now I'm up in the 900s and having fun. I post several time a day. Sometimes to do with a topic, and sometimes just plain, pure, unadulterated silliness.
Notice that all the "Monkeys" are in being silly and speaking Monkey-Business. Which if I'm not mistaken, was the point of the original lairs. Non-structured fun. There's nobody keeping anyone from posting something a little more serious or anything like that, but this strange fluctuating mixture is what should be expected with a combined lair.
I was merely noticing one of the up cycles. Which may be a down cycle for someone else. We have an oscillating forum.
I'm also, as I stated, addicted to ellipsahol, so that posting style will probably not change.

The original monkey lair was all inside jokes, and tomfoolery.
Not that organized conversation is a bad thing. Maybe now that the Japan monks and the Seattle monks are now well acquainted with each other, we can go back to the separated style of enderzero.net classic.
The two areas were unified to promote mixing of the two separate groups, now that we are mixed, maybe depending on mood we can choose the area to post in. nonsense land, or structure land.
That...

Does anyone not think it is a good idea?
J3RK and other monxors - are you less likely to bother to check the topical area?
McNevin - if you only had 15 minutes to check the forum really quick, would you be more likely to spend it looking at foolery or nonfoolery?
I'm just trying to get ageneral idea of forum behavior, but Kevin brings up a very good point.
I will explore this idea further.
But if I do split it up I'm sure l2icks0r will do everythting in his power to undermine the attempt to stifle the free flow of the forum.

Isn't there a disclaimer on the forum right now that says something like "no tomfoolery will be tolerated?"
I would probably check both sections if two sections existed. I like to kill as much of my productivity as possible. The only problem I see is that most of the tomfoolery and shenanigans of late have evolved out of serious or at least, unrelated topics. Splitting the forums may result in a different brand of foolery altogether. Whether or not this foolery is of greater or lesser value than the foolery we've become accustomed to is uncertain.
You never know. It could result in something like this:
(It's kind of hard to read, but the plaque says Tom Foolery.)

... this topic has already gone further than I would have liked. I didn't see a problem at all. Just a slight couple-day influx. If it gets changed around yet another time, I'm going to take my marbles and grump away. If people can't handle some random silliness, then this isn't where I need to spend my time. (Cause your friends aren't silly, and if they aren't silly well they're... no friends of mine. S.... I..... L...... L...... Y.....) I'm on a pro-musician board that gets sillier than most people in here do. There's no problem there. It's being over-analyzed. If people like myself can tolerate boring political discussions (granted I poke a little fun, and make some comments,) then I don't see why the same couldn't be done in reverse. The structure of a post is an even worse thing to be discussing. I won't go as far as Rixler might to express a distaste for such things, but I feel it's stupid none the less. Would you ask me to restructure my spoken sentences, or stop being as silly in person?
Just realized...

I really don't understand the pschology or point of what this forum is for anymore. I must say I totally agree with Dustin about over analysis. There is no benefit to this and it is the reason why the merge happend.
In regards to nonsense/structure land, we would really just be reverting back to the original form of the forum which if we hadn't tried to organize it in the first place none of the recent issues would have developed.
I think we each have different ideas of what this forum is and probably the most greatly varied ideas would be between what Ryland and I see this place as and I would think Dustin and Jonathan are probably somewhere in the middle of us.
So....here is my opinion of what this forum is for and what sort of things I look forward to it being:
1- Absolutely non-constructive time wasting randomality
2- A completely useless non-resource for anything other than joking around with friends
3- A creative outlet free of structure, rules, constraints, limits, maturity, and serious topics
4- Information on friends recent events/developments in their lives so that that information can be used against them in as abusive and comical a method as possible so that everyone is motivated to ridicule them. (Such as my weight lifting thing)
5- Lots of entertaining profanity. (such as: Jesus McFuck, etc...)
6- Not having anything posted be deleted by anyone other than the poster
Basically just no rules...anarchy...chaos...fun!!!

Yeah, we should have a Diablo and Non-Diablo section. I think yes, the cd check is the problem. The good thing is I have the opportunity to tell Microsoft about the problem.
