I now have version .86 merged and only missing 3 ROMs out of 5000+. The missing ROMs are somewhat inconsequential too. A clone of Anteater, a clone of THoop (I assume that's a basketball game I'd never play,) and one other ROM that I have no clue about. I've been missing around 15-20 for the last several sets. I'm pretty sure I have all of the CHD files too. The collection is HUGE!!! Now is a good time to send me HDDs to get a good MAME build. It's been a year since it's been in this good of condition.

Can I just get a C64 emulator with AnterPlanter?

That will take up more space than any current HDD will have. Anterplanter is a couple of terabytes. You'll need a RAID array in order to do it.

You know, keeping up with those MAME roms is a lot like a deadly game of Anter Planter...

Its not unlike a deadly game of AnterPlanter.
Irregardless, it is a collection that must be maintained.
Your not going to enjoy MAME if it's not kept up to date.
Their are to many ROMs too organize.
There always causing issues by not being synced with the latest release.

250GB ATA HDD for $120, the solution to all your problems in life.
I bought one of these super storage devices + an enclosure case for $20 and converted it to an external 250GB media HDD for my notebook.
In the last five days, I've loaded it with my entire music collection, the latest .86 mame romset, my entire cartoon collection, my entire software collection, and I've ripped/encoded about 50 of my DVD movies...what am I supposed to do with the remaining 160Gigs?
With storage like this available, there could be enough fresh air on mars to stop cohagen for good. Now get your ass to mars.

But first I need to take this thing out of the case, and stick it up my nose...
I'm down to one missing ROM for .86 now. Missing anteatg. The German version of Anteater.

The sad thing is, I actually want Anteater German. Not because I derive hours of fun from it. No. Because it's the last fracking ROM on the list.
MAME collecting has driven me completely mad.

Good to see you back onboard the collector wagon. I'll send a hdd shortly. Hopefully. What is the exact capacity one needs to have available for such a thing as the entire current MAME set (minus German Anteater, of course)?
This seems like as good a time as any to talk about data storage. What have ye all these days anyway. As soon as I do a little transferooney I wil be set up as follows:
Main PC: 250GB & 120GB
External: 120GB
Xbox I (GameBox): 200GB
Xbox II (MediaBox): 120GB
Notebook: 30GB
Bringing my grand total to a whopping 840GB. Pretty cloos to the epic TB mark.
BTW, I am somewhere around 90% capacity.

Found German Anteater this morning. I now have a 100% complete .86 set. Wooooooo Wooooooooooooo! Not a single missing ROM. I'm pretty sure the collection is 30GB plus or minus a bit. A 40GB HDD would be more than sufficient.
