I think it is about time for a new "What are you listening to" thread. Here's what I can't stop queuing up these days:
The Shins tracks "Caring is Creepy" and "New Slang" off of Oh, Inverted World.
The amazing album from The New Amsterdams, Worse for the Wear; in particular the songs "Spoils of the Spoiled" and "Hover Near Fame."
Any and all Alkaline Trio.
Ice cold Automato.
Coheed and Cambria's single off of In Keeping Secrets, "A Favor House Atlantic."
Andre3000's disc Outkast The Love Below and especially the hits, "Hey Ya" and "Roses." Ive never been a big Outkast fan but this disc has got me turned on.
Lotsa Modest Mouse. In particular their new album, Good News for People Who Like Bad News.
Candiria's "Down" from What Doesn't Kill You...
AFI's "Girl's Not Grey" off of Sing The Sorrow.
Eyes wide hip hop from both Mad Villain and from Danger Mouse and Jemini.
Jet's solid rock album, Get Born.
Let's see em...

Haven't chimed in lately, but here goes!
Any and all CKY-God dammit anyway!
Lots of Opeth (especially Damnation and Blackwater Park)-cheers to Agent for showing me the light which is the magnificient Opeth.
Ken Stringfellow's new album "Soft Commands"-From one co-conspirator behind the Posies. This album is purely cerebral sugar piano pop. Quite tasty, though a titch too saccharine at points. His voice is spot on.
SDRE, TFT-as always! They say the old habits die hard. Diary is the most important album of my life, and I can never get enough of that.
Bill Hicks almost every day-I irritate my cubicle neighbor by guffawing about "Artistic Roll Call" from Rant in E Minor. "Here Satan, try one!"
I finally listened to the new Beastie Boys album and I concur with Agent McNevin that they have indeed lost the magic. Remember the Track 3 Bass test? How could they mess up such a good thing?

Oooh, new stuff I haven't heard of!
j.me - I hate to hate but those are the same artists you were listening to a month ago. I'm relying on you for the new tunez.

I've been stuck on the new Amon Tobin contribution to Ninja Tune's
Solid Steel series. It's a live mix he did in Melbourne featuring alot of D&B, dub and heavy drums. Hard to swallow at first, but tastes great once you get it down.
ender: I think you'd like it; it's alot like the "Special Journeys by DJs" mix by Coldcut but with a little less hip hop rhyming.

The new Lamb of God "Ashes of the Wake" came out today. Nuff said.
The new Isis album "Panopticon" comes out very soon, it has leaked. It is MOST CERTAINLY a must have. Atleast check it out, even if you don't like rock it will appeal to you.

Shpongle - If anyone is into eating psychedelic mushrooms by the pound, then these albums make sense. Otherwise, it's a little weird.
Flaming Lips - Trying to get a copy of Zaireeka, apparently it's a four CD album that is all meant to be listened to simultaniously. No comment yet
As for hip hop, just trying to expand my Brother Ali and Rakim collection.

I just discovered
From Monument to Masses (the impossible leap in one hundred simple steps)
amg. Very cool political indy-rock...
Any rock band that uses Noam Chomsky sound bites is OK in my book.

Time to update this one. I've been rockin:
Some Trip-hop from Blockhead.
The hell out of Porcelain, the new album from rockers Sparta.
Political jammy trip hop (or something) by From Monument to Masses.
Indie grooves from The Shins, Deathcab for Cutie, Modest Mouse and the similar sounds of the Garden State Soundtrack.
Radio friendly indie flavored rock like Taking Back Sunday, The Walkmen, Jet, and Franz Ferdinand.
Chevelle's new solid (but too short) album This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us In).
The new one from Teh Roots.
A little Velvet Revolver.
And I still sing the praises (as loud as I can when I am driving) of The New Amsterdams, The Get Up Kids, and Alkaline Trio.
Can't get something out of your CD player, Winamp queue, or head? Let us know.

I'll second that notion!
Also, if it hasn't already been said, the new Rollercoaster Tycoon 3 has fantastic carnie music. Their best yet I'd say.

And where did you get that Killer's cd? I swear, I'm charging a fee for everyone who borrows that cd.
The killers are great live, same goes for Franz and Interpol.
I also recommend Absolution from Muse.
Ahh, found it!

I guess it is time for a quick rundown...
RJD2's Since We Last Spoke wicka wicka..
Sparta - Porcelain Their latest CD is their best work yet!
Handsome Boy Modeling School - White Men Not quite the Chris Elioutrageous humor of the first CD but still funny. And what's more? There's good music as well.
the mighty mighty
Mos Def - New Danger He switchin it up a bit and it works, but the cd hasn't really grabbed me by the balls yet.
U2 - How to Dismantle an Atom Bomb Another solid album.
Interpol Grabbed both their albums and throw em on when I feel like a little post-indie album rock.
The Shins Seeing these guys live has only made me a bigger fan.
Death Cab For Cutie Now that the secret is out about The Postal Service and I can't escape them, I can still relax into Ben Gibbard's angelic vocals with his main band.
From Monument to Masses Speaking of relaxing, who knew politically inspired music could be so down-tempo funky.
De La Soul - The Grind Date Somehow these guys continue to put out solid hip hop albums.
Little Brother - The Listening Some cool sounding hip hop I haven't gotten a chance to fully evaluate yet.
Talib Kweli - Beautiful Struggle I like it... but I think he needs Hi-Tek back.
Taking Back Sunday Just the kind of radio friendly indie I like.
Chevelle - This Type of Thinking These guys are great solid rock music. The CD is just too short though.
Jimmy Eat World - Futures The EmoGame crew can rest easy. While it is a solid album, no one is going to mistake it for emo.

The Black Dahlia Murder - Unhallowed
Isis - Panopticon
[Rap/Hip Hop]
Eminem - Encore
Ludacris - Chicken n' Beer
I'm Rich, Bitch!

Scroll about halfway down this
page to see my next planned vinyl purchase. Someone finally had the good sense to put Chappelle sound clips on a record for scratching.
Break record featuring a very comprehensive selection of sound bytes from the Dave Chappelle Show. There's over a two hundred snippets from skits like Rick James, Law & Order, Wayne Brady, Crack Head, Big Boy, Time Haters, Racial Draft, Wac Arnolds, N*gger Family, Internet, Lil Jon, Keeping It Real, and more.

Some other recent listens:
Handsome Boy Modeling School - "White People" : I agree that it's not as good as "How's Your Girl", but there are a couple of standout tracks. Favorite so far is "A Day In The Life" featuring RZA, The Mars Volta & AG. It's nice to see they got Father Guido Sarducci back for the into and outro; the skits featuring Tim Meadows are a poor substitute for Chris Elliot clips.
Mr. Scruff presents "Keep It Solid" : Another fine release in the Solid Steel series from Ninja Tune. Mr. Scruff doesn't really scratch it out, but blends a nice mix of funk, reggae, 80's hiphop and soul. I'm looking for the next installment in the series which is slated to feature former world DMC Champ
DJ Kentaro manning the tables.
Impeach the Precedent : This is a weird collection of soul and hip hop tunes. Best tunes are "Haves and Have Nots" with DJ Einstein (from Ugly Duckling) and MC Saakir (from Jurrasic5), "Give It Up" with Thes One and J-Live, "Bomb Combo" by People Under the Stairs...actually...it's alllll good.
Abdominal & DJ Fase "Flowtation Device" : I expected a little bit more out of this because of Abdominals great work with DJ Format. It's not all bad, but I just had higher hopes.
Chali 2na "Fish Market" : This is a sweet hip hop mix by DJ Dez, featuring works by Chali 2na and the rest of Jurrassic5 (and friends). Looking forward to his soon-to-be released solo effort.
G Love & Special Sauce "The Hustle" : Nice album on released on Jack Johnson's
Brushfire Records label (Jack Johnson contributes on one tune). I'm a long time fan of G Love and this output is exactly what I like about his earlier efforts: relaxed hip hop mixed with acoustic blues stylings. Saw them live twice in Tokyo last week and they did not disappoint.

Oh yeah, almost forgot that I've been listening to alot of the old Soulwax Radio shows from
2ManyDJs. Absolutely brilliant beat matching of songs that don't match. Can't recommend these enough.

Speaking of Jack Johnson, I rather liked the Jack Johnson track on the new Handsome Boy CD. I shall have to get ahold of the new G-Love CD as well.
