I had no idea how incredibly fucking lame Verizon was until I switched to Comcast... am now too happy!
Talked verizon into giving me the last three months free though...hehe cuz of all the problems. Now am going to cancel and enjoy $20 less expense per month...maybe the stupid bastards won't disconnect my dsl modem and I'll get to use it for whatever...

I need to upgrade my intra-gig transmission unit before I implement a new pixel spigot.

Pixel Spigot! Pixel Spigot! Pixel Spigot!
I'd toss a nice Pixel Spigot on the 845 board you have. You'd have a comparable system to 3nder and McNevin. You can find a 9800 Pro for $200ish. 9800 Pros are still my recommendation for anyone that doesn't want to spend $400+ on a card.
My Gig Creation Unit or GCU is quite happy too. Humming along daintily at 3.2 GIG-o-Hertz
If I had a faster Random Access Gig (or RAG) I'd be able to bump the GCU up to 3.5 in a nice stable Gig-Spitting mode. 3.2 is still spittin' the Gigs though. My Gig-Box is one crazy Gig-Spitter again. I haven't done this much upgrading since I could take my parts back to HDNW and pay the difference tax free on newer, faster ones. Through what I like to call the GigBox Upgrade Program or (GUP)
I need more Rotational Input/Output Gig Storage or (RIGS) though. I'm running out.

I miss the slightly used hardware trade in system.

That was so nice. I had a new CPU every couple months, better memory every once in a while, an easy way to RMA broken Seagates for working Seagates, etc. That reminds me, I should go around and collect any broken Seagate drives I can find, and get new ones to hand out.

As do I very much. Or being able to troubleshoot something by just swapping out parts.
But the upgrade system was definitely the best.
wow

such a cool thread... so ah yeah... I guess I should be checking back more frequently.
I still have two connections DSL and CABLE... DSL modem is just sitting there doing nothing though... it deals in MEGS...not GIGS...so screw it...I'll shut it down! Shut it down for the last time!!!!

L2ick you never answered my other question. Didnt you shut off your dsl before, but they never turned it off?
sorry...

Yeah...it went like this:
Signed up with GTE for 768/384 DSL and free modem
GTE died and said find a new provider
I didn't look for a new provider
Verizon just took over and never sent me a bill...for 1.5 years
Verizon downgraded to 768/128
Verizon service got really crappy
The finally billed me and said they "we know you have been using the service" but "don't want to lose such a valued customer." and didn't retro bill me
I fought with them to get a user/pass for email, webspace, news for 6 months
They finally got it to me but start.verizon.net really really sucks and is slow
As soon as I got the user/pass I told them that they weren't honoring their contract and got adjusted for the last 9 months.
Now I am going to cancel both DSL and phone...and just use cell
The End.

U showed them...
Well thanks for answering the question.
Oh but theres more!

Teh saga continues:
Called in to cancel DSL service.
They gave me a free months credit.
I'll cancel in a day or two and reduce bill even further.
You know what would be incredibly cool? To be able to carry a negative balance on your credit card and collect 28% interest...fuck...you would double your money in 30 months...and if you had a million dollars...well...ok I'm depressed... the rich get richer and the poor get poorer while serving in the military...=Z

Maybe you should try getting Verizon to pay for your Comcast account next
Tell them it was in the original GTE contract. Tell them that when you signed up, they said that if you ever left because you weren't happy with the service, that they'd buy you a year of the service of your choice.
Tell them it was a limited promotion that went on for about 2 weeks before they realized it was a bad idea due to the amount of people signing up and then cancelling. Make a fake news article timestamped from when you first signed up, stick it on a web server, and refer them to it when they don't believe you.
I'm coming up with bad Carabao-induced ideas.
