The Corporation

Post by mistasparkle* »

I just finished watching the 2nd part of "The Corporation," (official site)
and all I can say is holy shiat. The copy I have is from a TV-rip of a canadian show it aired on with a tiny bit of unneccesary introduction, but it's a really well put together film.

There was one segment in part two about a fox news show called the investigators which blew me away. They had the two main reporters from the show telling their story firsthand about their report which was gonna uncover that Monsanto corporation's rbst drug caused cancer. It goes on showing how they were threatened by monsanto, then by their manager, offered bribes to keep quiet, and finally fired for refusing to keep quiet about their story. Amazing that after they took Fox news to court and initially won based on "whistleblower" laws, they were later overturned in an appeal due to "media distortion." Still to this day their report was never shown, and monsanto and fox news walked away clean.... allowing loads of rbst milk into the market without anyone being warned that it causes cancer. (The movie's site has an interview with reporter Jane Akre about her court battle with Fox, and the entire transcript of the segment here)
Wilson: We said, "Well look, let us show you the research that we have that shows that this information you want us to broadcast isn't true." To which he replies, "I don't care about that." I said, "Pardon me?" And he said, "Well that's what I have lawyers for. Just write it the way the lawyers want it written." I said, "You know this is news, this is important. This is stuff people need to know."

And I'll never forget, he didn't pause a beat and he said, "We just paid three billion dollars for these television stations. We'll tell you what the news is. The news is what we say it is."
I suppose you don't really need more evidence to know that FOX news is bad, but that goes beyond slanting news. In any event... as you can see the doc paints a pretty grim, although IMO realistic picture of corporations and how they work.

(I think the tracker might be down now, but leave it open... they usually come back up eventually)

Good find. I have been meaning to check this out after hearing the buzz from Sundance. It also rocked a 90% on RT.
