RIVERVIEW SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 407
CARNATION, WA 98014
DRAFT Minutes of Regular School Board of Directors’ Meeting
April 27, 2004
District Office – Board Room
Cedarcrest High School Student Presentation
Mr. Lavarias, Principal at Cedarcrest High School, introduced Charley Drake, Graphic Arts teacher, whose students will present a PowerPoint on animation. Mr. Lavarias also acknowledged and congratulated Karen King, Drama teacher, recently named Duvall Citizen of the Year.
Mr. Drake noted Cedarcrest has had animation for a long time and this year they have a program called Maya, that was used to create Lord of the Rings. He mentioned the Bellevue School District wasn’t going to buy Maya because it’s too advanced for high school students. Bellevue is coming over in May to see what high school kids are able to do. The three high school students presenting have been in the program quite awhile. David McCaig and Cory Kite, who have been working together, presented key frame animation and dynamics. Diana Jetter discussed nerves modeling used in many 3-D programs and presented a profile of a head anatomically correct with muscles. These are the basics for creating games, movies, etc. Three-D animation is the future of movies and entertainment and is beneficial for this generation to learn these skills earlier in life, said Ms. Jetter.
Mr. Drake noted that in working with the Bellevue Community College Advisory Board he recently signed an articulation agreement for the Intro to Animation class and has the verbal okay to get articulated credit for the CHS advanced class at a 200 level at BCC. Cedarcrest is the only high school on the Eastside doing this.
Mr. Kite invited the Board to check out student work at Seven Arts Night on June 2nd at Cedarcrest and also at rhino3d.com website, under Gallery, go to school work, and Cedarcrest High School.
Mr. Drake advised next year Cedarcrest will have two full classes, Introduction to Animation and Advanced Animation.
