MS has dropped retail of the box in the US to $149 as of yesterday.

The thing is, even after the xbox is gone from production, there will still be plenty around to buy at the $100, $75, eventually even lower mark. This machine with some very minor tweaks will forever be a
- DVD player
- Set top PC for any other kind of media (avi, mp3, etc)
- Emulation machine that right now plays 98% of MAME and 100% of NES, SNES, Genesis, GBA, PCE, and emus are already at the playable point for PSX and N64.
- Xbox games - no matter how many more games have come out for the PS2 there are still a lot of great games for the Xbox. I can name a dozen of the top of my head immediately that I will go back and play some day. Even if you don't mod yer box you have to agree with that (it is just more expensive).
As the price drops the homebrew scene will just grow. I think it will be many years before the Xbox disappears from beneath my TV (when I have a TV).

That's funny. My xbox has thousands of games on it."I haven't heard any excitement about the price drop. The system has been out for two years," Mac Selwiney said. "It's a powerful system and it's an extension of the PC. But it's nowhere near the popularity of a (PlayStation 2) or GameBoy Advance, because there are not as many games out there for the Xbox."
