So which is the best software for making websites? I want something I can scag P2P and somethings that's easy to learn and updates all my links nicely.

And where can I get a forum like this wonderful forum? Do they cost money?

Cheers

For web design I recommend Macromedia Dreamweaver. The only other wysiwyg software I have even played around with is Frontpage and it can't hold a candle. Dreamweaver is much prettier, more powerful, more intuitive, writes better code, and doesn't make up its own proprietary extensions.

You will want a good image editting / graphics program as well for cutting up images and design. I use Adobe Photoshop for everything related to bitmap images but you would probably be cool with Macromedia Fireworks or even Adobe ImageReady.

This forum sw is called phpBB. It is free (unlike SJ's inferior UltimateBB) and runs on linux servers. I have linux hosting from cphosting.com and they provided the script that I used to install (and update) the forum. If you search for budget hosting you will find dozens of companies out there. Most offer easy install of all kinds of neato sw like phpBB. You can learn everything you ever wanted to more about phpBB at http://phpbb.com

Thx

Thanks ender, I'll check that out.

I've been using P-shop for years (since before it had layers  ) so fortunately I'm familiar with that. I've been using a very old version of Frontpage which is like coding by hand almost.

I've just got the domain wheelboarders.com and I'm going to make a Japanese/English site that hopefully lures people into fucking themselves up royally on curious wheeled boards.

ender, I have my website hosted (by freehomepage.com). Is it now just a matter of downloading phpBB and installing it as a script on their server?

Yep - if they allow it that is. But any budget linux hosting should allow you to install scripts. You do, however, need to make sure they are running mySQL and that they allow you to have at least one database. Are you paying for the service. If not you may not be able to have dbs. Send them a mail and they should be able to sort you out.

Thanks. I'll check that with my man Sergei.

I'm paying something like $34 dollars for 2 years for domain reg and hosting. It's pretty good value, although Sergei doesn't hurry himself about answering mail.

I suspect that even if I do get a BBS going, it will be the deadest, lamest BBS in existence. Most of the wheelboarding BBS's that actually have posters seem to recycling topics every 6 months. Mine will no doubt be the same, only without posters.
