Cuz I StrokeIt!

Here's some cool freeware I've been messin around with that uses programmable mouse gestures to control how you use your computer. When I say mouse gestures, I mean symbols you draw on your screen with your mouse. It's a lot like casting spells in the vaporware Black and White. If you draw a symbol StrokeIt recognizes, it'll perform the action you've assigned to that symbol. Do you want to launch your email program? Just draw an "M." Or if you'd prefer an "O" because you use Outlook, just reassign it in your command editor. It's not just for launching apps, either. StrokeIt can also execute user-defined commands within an active application. For example, I can draw a straight line down to copy text, draw a straight line up to paste it, and draw a P to print. These application commands are defined by plugin libraries you can create on your own or download from other developers.

So how exactly does it work? Click and hold down the right mouse button and then draw the mouse gesture. The result will appear as a fluorescent mouse trail, so you'll know when the program registers what you're drawing. It's a smart little app, too. I couldn't figure out how to draw an "F" the proper way, so I made StrokeIt "learn" my weird gesture. Now the beeeph version of "F" is recognized by default.

Check it out, it's free!

network password!

Here's a really cool password recovery tool for Windows...it's called Cain & Abel. C&A is not your typical local machine password cracker but a network password recovery tool. The software combines actual brother applications: Cain recovers the passwords and Abel pulls off the brute force attacks. It's different from other password crackers in the sense that it acts as a sniffer to intercept and crack passwords in real-time. Maybe you've heard of this before with other software, but it also has more features. It's fast and contains APR (ARP poison routing), which enables sniffing on switched LANs by hijacking IP traffic of multiple hosts at the same time. The sniffer can also analyze encrypted protocols such as SSH-1 and HTTPS if used with APR and a man-in-the-middle situation. Ships routing protocols authentication monitors and routes extractors, crackers for all common hashing algorithms and for other various specific authentications.

Works on password calculators, decoders, and the following utilities.
Cisco Config Downloader/Uploader
SiD-Scanner
LSA Secrets Dumper
Protected Storage Passwords Viewer
NT Hash-Dumper (works with Syskey enabled)
Abel Remote Console
MAC Scanner
Promiscuous-Mode Scanner
TCP/UDP/ICMP Traceroute + DNS Resolver + Netmask Discovery + WHOIS resolver (extracts information from RIPE's database)

I love the ARP cache poisoning feature. It will poision the cache of any host with a false ARP entry allowing it to foward traffic to the destination machine. This app has a great user interface and works amazingly well. And of course, it's completely free.

Get it here!

BUT WHAT ABOUT TEH SKUNK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

But What about teh skunk 12icks0r?

C&A is okay if you want a 9x pass but forget about Brute Force attacks on NT systems, especially XP. Funny you should bring this up though. I was doing a bit of ha><0ring last month and stumbled upon a number of tools.

Both DMonkey Wr3nch (1.1) and a little program called dialup.exe with an icon that looks like the Xfiles logo will list your cached DUN passwords.

Revelation and passthief are both really cool progs that let you basically highlight any ****ed out password and it will reveal what is below. I think Revelation (2) does some more neato tricks.

I played with Caine (1.5.1) a bit as well but it is pretty slow and Revelation did what I was trying to do quite quickly. Interesting C&A will be detected by virus scanners and even Ad-Aware pretty quickly.

There is also a prog called 123 WASP (Write All Stored Passwords) that is supposed to search your system for any cached passes. I didn't bother to mess with that tho.

All of these progs only really work in Win9x - which means they aren't incredibly usefull, unless of course you need a password off a 9x box. It just happened I did (ME) and was very happy with the results. Having a 9x box on a network is a huge security liability. Progs like 123WASP will report everything, including domain passwords, opening a big can of worms I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end of.

But I think we all know better than that these days anyway.

The Pocket OS

A GUI based OS that fits on a single floppy...MenuetOS!

It's pretty cool, I'm actually impressed with this tiny, open-source OS. It's written in assembly and you programming buffs know that assembly, pretty much the mother of all languages, can work blistering fast when used correctly. MenuetOS includes the tools you'll need to modify and compile the kernel and applications. Plus, it has a good-looking graphical user interface, and you can skin your application windows. I haven't messed around with it too much, but I got it up and running with no hold ups at all.

download it here, then all you need to do is hunt down a floppy drive.

DAEMON Tools 3.47
August 30 - 12:40 AM ET

DAEMON Tools is an application for multiprotection emulation. It is further development of Generic Safedisc emulator and incorporates all its features. This program allows running backup copies of SafeDisc, Securom, or Laserlock protected games. Also included is a Virtual DVDROM drive enabling you to use your CD images as if they were already burned to CD. It works with all types of CD/DVDROM drives and supports nearly any CD protection.

Sorry the deamon tools homepage contained the word "Hacking" and was blocked by my web sense at work.
there's a new Daemon Tools-Version out now, V 3.47

It is a hotfix-version to adress the latest issues
(especially the atapi.sys-lock with XP SP2).

The changelog for V3.47:

* Fixed lockup with some images containing bad sectors made by Alcohol (MDS)
* Fixed Nero InCD formatting problem with DAEMON Tools present
* Fixed atapi.sys locking problem (as a result, some emulation ability is removed for PCD5 until new release)

we greatly suggest to upgrade to V3.47 !

Note, that we DON'T plan to release any further versions until we finish
development of our new so-called
major-release (internal code Daemon Tools V 4)

Oh cyberlink why have you forsaken me...

I just tried out powerdvd 6.0 and graphically I hated it. Functionally it was fine, except for the fact it tried to take over my file associations. Even without winamp, i refuse to use powerdvd to play MP3s.

Looks great!

Yuck

How can you improve on this?

Yes it does support skins, i could have used the "Glow" skin with six, but I coulnt figure out how to un-associate the MP3 files. I could have manually done it, but uninstalling sounded easier. Mainly because of the icon.
