I have a new job!

I am in a temp to hire position at Cox Communications. I work in the High Speed Internet Department, as a Technical Support Representative. I am enrolled in a 5 week training course, which I started yesterday. After that I have 60 days on the job to prove myself. If I perform to their standards, I will be offered a tier 1 support position, or if I can really prove myself, a tier 2 position. All Cox employees must work 10 months of Technical Support, in order to be considered for any other position, which are primarily staffed internally. So there are lots of advancement opportunities.

Cox is a great place to work, so I’m told. They are supposedly one of the top places to work for. From what I’ve seen, they seem pretty accommodating. They have a full cafeteria on site, and a full daycare center. I have heard that they have excellent medical benefits as well. I was talking to my future lead, and he couldn’t stop talking about how much he liked to work there.

So wish me luck on my new employment venture!

Hey, i finished my training early today, and I was poking around in abuse database.

They had two fields that caught my attention:

Copyright - General
Copyright - Usenet

They give special attention to software posting on the usenet. They are going to be filtering their newsgroups starting very soon. We actually talked about the Abuse department earlier, and the instructor actually refered to "Warez" in the correct pronunciation no less. If you are caught, you can be blacklisted from cox networks for life. Just a thought. It would suck to be blacklisted on an ISP that owns their own backbone. They are one of the biggest ISPs out there.

Another sucky thing I noticed, they keep tabs on everyones download amounts, and you can actually be suspended for downloading to much data. They have an automatic shut-off at 30 GB per month. I think Fuqin Joe's "Friend" easily acheives that on a montly basis. Joe should tell him to be carful if he decides to switch to COX, which sevices the Orange County area.

I have already learned a shit ton about cable networking, and I hope to learn even more. I really hope this pans out!

Happy surfing...
