Don't use zDoom. Use "The Doomsday Engine," it's a lot better.

the only problem I have with zDoom is the music not being exactly the same...other than that it runs perfectly

It's not a question of whether it "works fine" or "runs perfectly"
It's a question of whether or not you want the best Doom engine port, with the most features, that easily works with all related games, with the coolest options and enhancements. And the answer to that is: YES, YOU DO WANT THE "best Doom engine port, with the most features, that easily works with all related games, with the coolest options and enhancements."
So, go here:
http://dengine.net/
And get you up some damned Doomsday Engine damn it! Enjoy! If you do, I'll install it later tonight when I'm done with a few things, and maybe we could play some co-op.
I have one group of words for you (and maybe zDoom has it now too, but who cares...) MOUSE LOOK!!! It's especially nice in Heretic and Hexen where you had to look up and down anyway. Now you can just point like you would in Quake, and blast something. No more holding a key while you watch you view slowly track toward someone above or below you.
WeeeeeHAAAAAAWWWW!!!!

Now, some notes on how to get the best Doom/Heretic/Hexen experience. This engine will let you load in high res textures, 3D models, etc. DON'T DO IT!! You lose the nostalgia factor, and by todays standards of modelling and texturing, it's not worth the slight visual enhancements. HOWEVER, DO USE all of the enhanced lighting effects, control enhancement (like mouselook,) and anything else that just adds a little oomph (for lack of better term,) to the original assets. Just some nice lighting does wonders while keeping the original look and feel close to the same.

I've dedicated a lot of time into tracking down the best source ports, enhanced engines, etc. for the older id/Raven games. I need to do a bit of an update for Quake, Quake 2, and Hexen 2, but anything Doom Engine should still definitely use Doomsday.
Over...

Oh, and use Dark Places for Quake 1. (I used to like Tenabrae, but they stopped development, and it's a bit hacky...) Dark Places is quite polished.

Hmm, this one's interesting. It's good for everything based on Quake engines up through Q3A. I'll have to try it when I get home:

But it was all about the nostalgia factor for me... =[
still what you are talking about does sound pretty cool though...

Well, that's why you would play one of these. Just because you're trying to get a nice nostalgic gaming experience though, doesn't mean you have to suffer without MOUSELOOK!

Awesome experiment. Well worth the watch.
Now I'm gonna fire me up some Doomsday. MMMM Heretic.

That was pretty damned fun. Just played a bit of Doom and then through the first 2 levels of Heretic. 100%s! That was the most videogaming fun I've had in a while (although Jet Set Radioing in the future past with ch0k1 was fun too).
So what's that there Quake 2 engine I gotta do for?

Got Q2 goin with
KMQuake2.
1. Ripped the Data folder off my old Q2 CD.
2. Downloaded
KMQ2 Engine v2b3 and unzipped to Q2 folder.
3. Downloaded
HiRes LevelPack and unzipped to Q2 folder.
I think that was about it.

I want to do this soon. Just a bit overly busy at the moment. Building things, working, and getting certified in Sailing and Seamanship. Weeeeeehaaaaaawwww... I'm going to be a proper sailor, who builds synthesizers, and plays Quake 2 on the seas!
