Mass Effect 2 available tomorrow...

Post by R3C »

And me without the funds... Alas!

I'll be picking it up after my modular is big enough to burst forth with sonic goodness. (it's almost there)

I have yet to finish Mass Effect 1, but I pre-ordered the digital deluxe edition of 2, so I could get all the extra goodies.

Ooohhh, the digital deluxe! I fear I'll only be able to get Vanilla... Hmmm... Vanilla... Who decided that Vanilla would be equated with generic. Vanilla is delightful, comes from Orchids, and is generally an ingredient in many fine foods, and non-foods.

Mass Effect 2 is excellent! I've only been playing for about an hour and a half, and it's already pulled me in. The performance is also excellent on the 5770. Weeeehooooooo! Definitely recommend the game even after the wee amount of time I've actually played. Even the opening sequence was cool enough to where I didn't skip it like I do with 90% of games.

ME2 is the best game I've played since ME1.

I explored every world, no matter how pointless it was on ME1. (except gas giants of course) However, some of them were a little too dangerous, so I had to skip off of them quickly.

ME2 doesn't have the Mako exploration parts, it uses a different system. I miss the Mako to some degree, but it doesn't detract at all from ME2 that it's not there.

No MAKO?!?!?! NEEEeeoooooO!!!!!! I thought the MAKO was really cool...Wait, how do you know? You haven't finished the game yet have you? Maybe something like that will come up later...maybe a flying MAKO or something...I wish I still had my save game from ME1 so I could have it be more personalized like they say it is. I've heard they took out the generic side missions and exploration so that is nice...not that I ever did them anyway but I guess there are still some kind of story related side quests though....I almost want to play ME1 again before going into this one so I can have my ME1 save game effect ME2. Did you do that R3?

There is a site that has a ton of saved games of various types available. I lost my old save too, but found a nearly identically set up one on that site. I can't remember what the site is, but it's easy to find with a search.

Edit:

This was WAY too hard to find :D

HEE HEE

It doesn't appear to be the same site that I got my save from, but they appear to be doing something similar. You can choose just about any variation on how the game was played.

Think I'm around 50-65% through the game now. I actually have the option of getting into the final missions already, but you know how I operate. Must explore everything, and collect everything worth collecting. :D Nothing has held my interest this long since ME1. Did I mention that the game in incredibly good?

1 mana potion

The game actually went on sale today by waiting cuz it was $49.99 last time and now only $39.99

Now it must sit on the desk and ripen before I can open it and install it.

Never play an unripe game. :D

I've still got several ripening from last year. (like Fallout 3, among others) Or, if you want to liken them to US Savings Bonds, we must wait for them to mature...

Yeah, I imagine they are. I played them when they were slightly unripe, but they were fun anyway. Not as fun as the original for some reason. They just didn't draw me in as much. Even though they were improved in a lot of ways, and had some good moments, they felt like mods to me. I don't think I'm into episodes in that sense of the word. I like them in a standard trilogy sort of thing like Mass Effect is doing. Where you get a full game/story each time you play. Not wait years at a time for a few more hours that could have been rolled into a bigger experience.

You just supported the worst form of DRM ever! I hope you're proud of yourself.

:D

I don't really care either way, but I was hoping nobody would buy UBIs lastest round of games that use it.

Basically, you can't play the game unless you're online 100% of the time. I know that's not such a big deal for people like us that have internet connections 100% of the time, but it's still intrusive. Steam will let you play in Offline Mode if your connection is down, whereas this thing will not. It actually downloads parts of the game while you're playing it from what I understand. This is fine if you buy a game as an MMOG and that's obviously what it's all about. I should have to be connected though to play a single player game, or the single player component of a game.

The argument is that UBI should make good games, and include incentives to make people buy instead of pirate, not use ridiculous DRM schemes that only hurt people that bought it.

When asked what happens years from now if the server is no longer available, they said that while they could release a patch to remove this, that that's not their plan. They said "we don't plan to ever take the server down." What if something they didn't "plan" for happened?

It's mostly principles here, as this wouldn't really impact me much, since I play PC games mostly on my main home system which is always online. Still bothers me a bit though.

Oh BTW, the game is magnificent BUT...it has problems. Since it is an port from the XBox the controls are all in XBox keys...so you have to learn to map those keys to the PC keystrokes...which kind of sucked.

Also instead of just pressing a key like you would think you have to hold the E key down or it won't exit the Eagle vision mode. Going into Eagle vision you don't have to hold the key down.

Picking up weapons and carrying bodies requires that you press the shift button twice in fast succession not once like you would think. And it doesn't tell you that.

The beginning of the game was really frustrating and puts you into a play situation first when you don't know what you are doing and THEN teaches you how to do it...stupid. Like disarming enemies I was trying and trying and it told me to disarm them but I only got it to work twice and I had no idea how I did it. Later in the game I learned that I don't have the disarm skill yet and have to learn it...FRUSTRATING!

They mix Italian and English together which is kind of cool. The character animation and graphics are the best I have seen at ME2 level. The world is super detailed and you can perch yourself on top of many lookout points to get an idea of how large it is. AC1 did that too but it looks like there is a slightly greater level of detail.

Story is pretty good...pretty easy to follow most everything. Kind of cool that you get to work with Leonardo DaVinci...

OH! and this time you can swim! last time you would drown...can dive off of high buildings or just dive in general...fun.

Sounds not bad at all. I may have to play the first one, since I only really played a few missions of it. I've pretty much explored everything there is in ME2, so I just have to start on the last missions now. I'll probably be done with it this weekend.
