I just don't have enough time to play all the games that will be coming out this fall/winter - so I need to prioritize (and in the meantime get excited about em).

Let's go thru this - what do we/I HAVE to make time to play?

TOP PRIORITIES

1. Bioshock (PC) - Already into it, it's great, gonna finish it for sure.

2. Team Fortress 2 , Portal, etc. (PC - 10/9) - Gonna pre-order it this w/e so I can get on the beta. My thought is that I am gonna need the valid key to play the full sucker online anyway - don't think I want ot be relegated to cracked servers. Am I wrong?

3. Super Mario Galaxy (Wii - 11/12) - clearing my calendar for this one for sure.

4. Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare (PC - 11/5) - Early reports are that this could be one of the best games of the year.

5. Crysis (PC - 11/13) - If my dual 7600s can handle it...

MEDIUM PRIORITIES

Project Gotham 4 (360 - 10/2) - new kudos coming real soon.

Beautiful Katamari (360 - 10/17) - Finally Katamari on Xbox.

UT3 (PC - 11/12) - New UT MP fun.

Gears of War (PC - 11/6) - Xbox 360's best FPS in all its PC glory.

Soul Calibur 4 (360 1/2/08 ) - got some time but still excited.

LOWER PRIORITIES

Tomb Raider Anniversary (360 - 10/25) The original and best Tomb Raider, all updated for current gen.

Halo 3 (360) - Anyone feel like they have to play this?

Eternal Sonata (360) - Prolly won't have time to really play but might check out.

Skate (360) - Supposed to be very cool take on skateboard genre.

DiRT (360) - Been meaning to get my rally on.

Metroid Prime 3 Corruption (Wii) - Considering I didn't play the others... dunno.

Am I forgetting anything?

Here's my list. I imagine other things will creep into it, but right now these are the main ones.

Bioshock (I'm nearly done with my first play now.)

Mario Galaxy (It is autumn, and playing a Mario or Zelda game is a must.)

Crysis (It'll be nice to have another DX10 game.)

UT3 (I'm not a huge UT player, but I always like to see the latest Epic and id tech.)

Valve Bits (These should be fun, but nothing terribly new and exciting here. I'll play TF2 quite a bit I think, but I was never into the first one, so it's not high on the excite-o-meter until I try it out. Portal looks like a lot of fun to me.)

Not sure when it's supposed to be released, but The Witcher is looking quite nice.

I hope they don't try to make fake shortages of Mario Galaxy. I will be quite pissed if I can't get a copy at or near launch. "Software shortages" are the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard of. I don't even remember there being shortages when the N64 was around using gigantic cartridges. For the same company to say they can't get enough copies of Twilight Princess out the door on optical media was ridiculous, and I hope it was just because of the launch. If they do the same thing with Mario... :madder:  :madder:  :madder:  (I'll fluctuate quickly between madder and angry :D )

Just bought Quake Wars on Steam. (playable tomorrow) I've been hearing good things about the complete game. I played it in beta for a while, and it was a lot of fun, just not a lot of variety since it was one map and one game type. The cool thing is that you can do bot play, so when none of you monkeys will play it with me, it won't just sit around. :D :D :D

Anyway, based on what I played of it, and the fact that anything I thought needed improvement seems to have been done in the final...

Buy it damnit! :D

It's not Steam exclusive obviously, so those of you who won't buy it, may still be able to find a copy. Perhaps we'll be able to set up a private Hamachinized server or something.

Unlocked and downloading. Should be ready to play by the time I get home. I'm still up for some TF2 if it can be orchestrated as well. Late tonight anyone? I'd rather play ET:QW as I think it's a little cooler, but I have both, so...

I want them to unlock Portal damnit! Looks like fun.

Almost done with Bioshock. I'm on a fairly difficult section right now (right near the end.) It's an [spoilbox]escort mission[/spoilbox] which I hate in any game, so I've been taking a little break from it.

Hmm, I didn't remember what the date for this was. Apparently it's tonight at midnight, as it has a timer with 10 hours and 45 minutes to go. Weeeeee!!!

UT3 Demo is available now...

It bloody-well flies on my main system. Haven't tried the others, but it should work pretty well there too. It looks and plays just like any other Unreal game, so I'm sure I'll love it for a while, and then not play it again for a year until there is a lull or something. It looks great though, is fast, and all that. I was more impressed by the visuals in Bioshock though. Completely different style, but they grabbed me more.

Grab the Crysis SP Demo now... Damnit!

Quite nice.

I can run it with everything on high, but it runs a tiny bit better if I switch one or two things to medium. This is on my main gaming system. I think adding another 8800GTS or waiting for the next iteration will help quite a bit, as the rest of my system is way overspecced.

Anyway, it's fairly incredible. It definitely doesn't have the artistic flair of Bioshock, but in the realism department, I haven't seen anything like it.

...

This is with DX10 though, so my results aren't necessarily what you can expect on DX9 hardware/OS.

So I just got finished playing a little of the UT:3 demo. Graphics are amazing, but nothing too innovative game-play wise. Seems like the vehicles got harder to control, and got all squirrelly. Maybe you can adjust that, but i didn't really investigate.

Supposedly those are the low or medium quality textures in the demo (to keep the size down,) so the final will look better. The thing I (and a few others noticed,) was that everything has a slightly washed out Genesis look to it. Some things are incredibly detailed and colorful, and then other things look like some color/gamma/contrast level was cranked to the maximum. Kinda weird. Yeah the gameplay is the same as it always was, so not much new there. I may wait until the price comes down a bit before I buy it, (depending on what else I'm playing at the time.) I think Crysis and Mario get my money first though.

I picked up Mario Galaxy (Galaxies?) whichever... yesterday. I don't think I've had this much fun playing a game in quite some time. At least not on the platform end of things. I think Psychonauts was the last platform game that I enjoyed this much. I'm actually quite impressed with the graphics, (which is not usually the Wii's strong point.) The whole game is pretty much perfect for the genre. No complaints at all so far. I highly recommend it.

I've been playing Gears of War a bit on the PC, and it's not bad. It's not the incredible shooter of the century that all the 360 people were making it out to be, but it's definitely fun, looks nice, and I like the cover mechanic. It's like playing an old gun game like Time Crisis only with more freedom of movement.

Crysis and UT3 will probably be my remaining fall games. I grabbed Need for Speed Pro Street, but haven't tried it out yet.

Mario Galaxy is indeed excellent and the graphics surprisingly advanced. Just got to the first bee level. I can't help but feel it is a bit on rails so far. hopefully the worlds get a bit bigger and more spread out.

It's less on rails than Mario 64 was if one was to ask me. Mario is a platform game. They need to be somewhat railish or they can become mishmashish. It's also hard to tell a story without some degree of linearity. Open ended and spread-out-ish is for RPGs, some shooters, and the like in my opinion. I'm mid-way through the whole next section, and so far there hasn't been a level that I didn't like. Some are better than others of course, but I've liked them all. (The Bee levels are incredibly fun.) The next system has some pretty cool themes. Space Junk Galaxy is fun. There are multiple ways to do many things in the game, which is nice. They could add a bit more size to the levels, but for a game like Mario, I like it to be more about platforming skill than figuring out what you're supposed to do in a level. That's one of the good things about this one. There's a lot less "what do I need to do here?" and more tests of skill and thinking on one's feet. It's the flashiest Mario game yet, and that's perfect for a platformer. Platform games should be over the top in effects, colors, etc. I love the spacey music in the galaxy selection areas, on the observatory ship, etc. Reminds me a bit of the solar systems in Star Control II. As far as Mario games' themes, I think this one grabs me more than any in the past, (except maybe Super Mario World, which is pure unadulterated Mario style.)

It would be nice if they adapted Mario Sunshine to the Wii controller, so you could spray water without the clumsiness of the analog stick and shoulder buttons.

Well, back to the Galaxy for me...

I just mean that when you link the different planets together by the star cannons it creates an extra level of linearity that seems like an evolutionary step backwards for me. I would like to be able to backtrack in a level to grab extra stars, get some health, pickup whatever - but at least so far that means finishing the challenge, exiting, and going back in. I do not mean to take too much aweay from the beautiful and amazingly fun game, but so far that is my one gripe. That being said I have heard the levels get much larger and this becomes less of an issue as you progress. I am looking forward to the more advanced levels.

McNevin - we got a challenge on our hands. We are gonna kick some mario galaxy on t.givin!!

I don't know if I've mentioned the fact that I picked up Crysis and UT3 or not. Well, Crysis is beautiful as expected. I'm running on quad core, 2x 8800GT (SLI,) 4GB, etc. I can run everything at very high at "playable" speeds. I like to turn post-processing down a bit though to ditch the motion blur. (this speeds the game up to completely acceptable speeds) The blur is actually the best implementation that I've seen, but it's still unwelcome in this type of game for me. I haven't really gotten that far into the game yet, I've mostly been tweaking settings. (as I have too many other games going right now) It looks amazing, and I can't wait to get into it more.

UT3 is well, UT3. It's just like previous ones, but looks many times better. I'm not completely blown away by the graphics, but they are very pretty. I think I like the look of Quake 4 better, and that's getting a bit older now. I'm just not as much into Epic's visual style in the first place, so even with the highly updated graphics I'm less than impressed. The action is very quick as expected. The weapons are all pretty much the same as UT2004, except the minigun is now like the Stinger from Unreal. I've mostly deathmatched with bots, as I haven't had time to play it much. The other modes should be fun. It doesn't look like there's an Assault mode like 2004. (which was my favorite non-CTF/non-DM mode) There aren't as many levels as there are in 2004 which is disappointing. The menus aren't great, and they don't allow much control over your settings. Supposedly they are updating this in the patch though. There's always the INI file though, so I suppose this isn't a huge deal. Overall though it seems polished, and is fun. If everyone grabs it, it will be the first time in a couple of years that I'm willing to play UT multiplayer. :D

Grabbed Hellgate London. Quite fun. Modern Diablo game with 1st person or standard 3rd view, nice graphics, fast, easy to pick up and put down at will, etc. I'm only playing single player right now. It's free, but you can pay some small amount monthly for extra bits. (better unique items, and some other things, (if I remember correctly storage for items etc.)) Anyway, it's nice. If someone I know grabs it, I'll hop into MP.

Everyone have their copies?

So.... ...fun....

Diablo 2, Dungeon Siege, Dungeonblo? with slightly futuristic London setting, with hell-bits... Free to play online... Why nobody is playing with me???

I know I can count on l2icksor to play a Diablo-Siege(ish) game with me. Perhaps I just need to buy SpidMonx a copy... yes... ...then he MUST play it... heeeeeheeeheeheheeheehehehehehe!!!! No more lonely Hellgate playing for J3RK and E.A.R.L!!!

Get it more!

(don't make me play it with a lighthouse keeping robot)

I finally got Crysis to fly. I had to use a single GT. It's known that the game has problems with SLI that should be fixed in the patch. I disabled SLI completely the other night, and was still running into major performance problems. I re-enabled it last night, and just switched the mode to single card (instead of the various SLI options.) The game is running well over 30FPS in the places I've tested. I tweaked my settings to be mostly on high, with textures, shaders, and one or two other options to very high. I then used a nice config file in conjunction with those settings to get the nice light-rays, and better water. The game now looks more or less like what I was expecting it to. Now if they'd just release their feckin' patch, so I could turn the settings up even more. This game is the whole reason I'm running two cards to begin with.
