Core 2 Duo E6300 Overclocking

I asked ClubIT a few days ago if they would send me a retail OEM processor for some overclocking testing. We wanted to see what the "real" processors where looking like in the wild instead of basing our opinions on Intel-supplied engineering samples. ClubIT sent over a nice shiny new OEM Core 2 Duo E6300 which retails with them for $209.00 with free shipping currently. With stock air cooling and a Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 motherboard I was able to hit a fully stable 3.25GHz. That represents a 1.4GHz overclock! A thread on my experience is here, and make sure you check out the Core 2 Duo Overclock Database put together by “mentok1982.†It will show you just what kind of overclocks many of our forum members are getting.

The E6300 is shaping up to be the next 300A. For those of you that understand that statement, you will certainly appreciate the value.

300A? Psssh, no SL2W8!

I am so far behind the curve. I just switched to AMD last month.

But the price disparity does seem to be gone. Didn't AMD used to be the budget option?

I keep looking at them, and they ARE faster, and OC VERY well, but nothing I run right now is limited by my CPU. I may do a decent sized upgrade at Vista time, but until then, I don't think I'll be doing anything major.
