It's Back! And I want one! Well I wanted the GTi, but now im not sure" Guess I should see what it looks like first.
In a surprise move, Volkswagen of America, Inc. announced today that its all-new fifth generation Golf, which debuted at the 2006 Chicago Auto Show, is going back to its roots with the original Rabbit nameplate for the U.S. and Canadian markets.

" ...is a nod to the passionate North American enthusiasts who have an emotional connection with the Rabbit name."

Not bad. The little car with big dreams has come a long way since its Nazi roots. More images please? I'd like to see more.

McNevin, the new frontend in your sig looks sick. I looked around and couldn't find any clearer pics anywhere...

Got any links?

I think I may get one in a year or two. I've been wanting something small, fast, four doored, easy on the gas, etc. This seems like the perfect way to go. Not to mention it's a lot cheaper than I thought it would be. (even for the GTI) Now, if they just made a four door version of the GTI.

I wouldn't ever buy a Volkswagen - they just break and fall apart and aren't built intelligently. Every time I worked on one I constantly couldn't understand why in the hell they made such incredibly stupid design decisions. They are a disposable car in my opinion.

I just have had too many bad experiences working on those things...it's like they were really designed to not be worked on and just break after a certain time. They use way to much nylon or some kind of plastic polymer that cracks after a while.

The most ridiculous thing I had to do was replace the ignition switch because the plastic wore down and then the key wouldn't turn the switch anymore. So rather than just use a regular fastener that you could turn like any normal fastener VW uses a fastener that doesn't have a slot or hex head or whatever it's just smooth. In the official repair manual it tells you to drill it out with a electric drill...which not only is stupid that you have to do that but is also doubly bad advice because all I did was slot the top of the fastener and then use a normal screwdriver...I thought maybe they did this for security reasons so you couldn't get the ignition switch out? but that didn't make sense because all you had to do is pull the little plug off the ignition switch that was fastened with that retard fastener and plug it into another ignition switch and the car will start...without having to use a key.

And why can't they be normal and not require some special tool just to remove the spark plugs???? Do the spark plugs just come flying off or something and so they need to be locked into place?

I also love how all the non-critical plasticky crap in the engine compartment gets tempered after a while and then eventually just disintigrates when you touch it - it's very nice...

I did actually like the VR6 engine design somewhat and it could be totally nice if they just made the critical parts out of aluminum instead of plastic thus solving the cracking from heat problems...The Phaeton engine is pretty cool but I am pretty sure it was inspired by the Bugatti Veyron's engine design. Oh BTW if you didn't know already I have offically declared the Bugatti Veyron 16.4 to be the coolest car on the planet....
