if you want to remove those annoying, uninterruptible videos at start up, just delete em from the movies folder in the EA\Battlefield 2\Mods directory.

THIS TIP OF THE DAY WAS BROUGHT TO YOU BY SOMEONE WHO CARES

I own it, but don't have it installed, and I hate those videos. Yes, good tip.

It's here, but I'm not playing it!!!

You're wasting it!!!

J3RK, I don't understand!

I think I know what your hold up is...you've never seen the awesome spectacle that is the blowing up of multiple artillery cannons from a safe distance using C4 packs. I know you haven't. because if you did, you'd realize that C4 packs can stick to other things too, like people and birds, and they present entirely different, yet equally awesome, spectacles for your viewing pleasure. have you ever seen how a person behaves when he's got C4 stuck to him? I'll tell you this, after you see it once, you'll want to see more of the same!

Tip of the day: Pressing the sprint button while going down ladders will make you slide down the ladder.

The C4 packs were the only enjoyment I got out of the game when I was playing it. I do appreciate those. However, I'd rather play Quake IV, or perhaps F.E.A.R. with a slightly smaller group of people that I know, than playing BF2 with a large group of idiots, or people that do nothing but play it 24 hours a day. I also prefer a LAN situation where if I need to throw something at 3nd3r I can. :D Really though, I've been considering reinstalling it. I've just been too busy soldering away on my new modular synthesizer. I just finished the last module for it the other day (until the next one shows up,) so I might possibly find a little time to install and play these... ...dragons...

I think...no, I know a multiplayer session of QuakeIV should coordinated very soon...but who has a copy? and who has a legal copy?

Beeeph2 Tip-ohhh-teh-day: If you're the last or one of the last men alive on a map with no uncappables, become a squad leader so the rest of your team can spawn back into the game.

I have a legal copy. Seth also has one. I imagine it will be very cheap soon though.

I have a more traditional "copy" - and if it was well coordinated for a particular evening around 8 or so I might be able to squeeze it in. Twould be fun.

I quite like the single player. I played for about 2 hours. Quite cinematic & I like the episodic nature. It does seem to be pretty damn influeneced by Halo and its popularity - at least more than by the earlier Quake games.

I forgot, we don't really need proper copies. We need to use Hamachi. If you're not familiar McNevin introduced me to this handy little utility. Virtual LAN over internet. Weeeeeee!!! We've played Q4 using it before, and it worked quite well.

I am familiar - quite handy. Would have made things much simpler back in teh day.

todays BF2 tip: Grab a jet, fly it over a large body of water, point her straight up, when the gauge reads 1000m, press the 'e' button to evacuate the craft and free fall all the way down. the view is unreal! don't hit the parachute button, you wont die and it's a great deal of fun. enjoy the 5 minute swim back to shore.

I'm hopelessly addicted to BF2, and now I have the spec forces addon.

We should get a game going sometime.

have you guys checked out http://www.bf2s.com ? I'ts pretty slick, and shows even more stats than bf2.

indeed, we should! Sparkle, have you checked out xfire? Works good for coordinating bf2 games amid monkeys.

Xfire is pretty sweet... I'll get that going.

Militant crack... hmph!! :D I'm pretty close to reinstalling the game, but I just got into another game of System Shock 2, so it may be a few days to a week before it appears again.

Someone should mail me a copy of BF2... then it could sit here and never get installed. Don't you need 2 gigs of RAM for it not to crawl anyhoo?

It works ok without 2GB, but much better with... (as do most newer games (well, at least the fancy shooters and such))

Beeeph2 Top-ifff-the-day: the M95 (upgraded sniper rifle) is extremely deadly at close range. All classes with no body armour can be one shot killed by simply shooting them in the chest (at close range, <100m).

I thought about getting bf2 but there is no single playar? I have 2gb of ram...kind of done with CD2 but twas a fun game...

You can play single player. It's not story oriented, but you can populate the areas with bots and go blast things. It's not too bad. I will probably reinstall it after I get my computer running again tonight.

Ok, I've installed the blasted game. I haven't patched it up yet or anything. I have to go through my standard reaclimation process before I'll play online. I should be ready in a day or three. If I play BF2 though, someone had better play Q4 with me... damnit!

GOOD W3RK, J3RK!

This is a glorious day indeed. I'm leaving town for the weekend, so we should plan a game for monday or tuesday night around 9:30 or 10. Is the admiral box configured and ready for battle? The Sparklebox? The chokichokibox? The |2icks0r! box? The Goebox? Is there an ed9k box? Ender?

my $6 manila special version of BF2 finally crapped out on me. I just started getting cd-key invalid this week after it working without a hitch for about a month. crap on a crap cracker!

I ordered a real deal copy from this japanese shop that imports us games, but it's on back-order for like a month. I'm almost thinking of biting the bullet and getting the japanese edition just for the hell of it.

I'll hop on xfire as soon as i'm up and running again.

Sorry, I do not run instant communications utilities.

Posted: Wed Feb 08, 2006 3:11 pm
by Beeeph
nor do i...and although this instant communication software can be used as an instant communication utility, I use it for an entirely different reason...global monkey positioning. it greatly speeds up the server coordination process and, therefore, you must get it. unless you know of a better solution...hmm hmm?
