Scott Stapp versus 311

Post by enderzero »

I just can't help myself when it comes to news about Scott Stapp being an ass.
The setting: a Baltimore hotel on Thanksgiving night. Three members of rap/rock band 311 were together with their wives, watching a Lakers game at the hotel bar. In walks Scott Stapp (former lead singer of Creed, with a solo debut just now out), reportedly drunk and causing trouble. What would YOU do? Well, besides question why you were staying at the same hotel as some of the late-90s' most overrated rock artists, you'd probably watch the fur fly. Here's what 311's S.A. Martinez recalls:

"(Scott Stapp) was acting out of control, looking for attention and being loud and obnoxious. He walked up to the bar, took a shot of whiskey and then slammed the shot glass down on the bar, and it shattered everywhere. Then he got into it with some patrons and all of a sudden he's walking up to us and telling us how much of an inspiration we were to him. And it was nice, but we had all just eaten our Thanksgiving dinner, and he was drunk, so it got really annoying really quickly."

Describing the rest of the encounter for a MTV article, Martinez proceeds to share that before long, Stapp was insulting his wife which led to a fight. Some people were "sucker-punched," Martinez fractured a knuckle, and 311 bassist P-Nut apparently "reopened a surgery scar in the fight." Needless to say, security soon arrived and Stapp was reportedly kicked out of the hotel. The 311 folks, though, seem to be recovering well. As Martinez concludes: "I haven't been in a fight since probably third grade, so the whole thing was pretty surreal. It was out of control. Scott was enraged. And as we were holding him down, I felt really bad for him. I was concerned for him ... But at least the Lakers won."

Both 311 and Scott Stapp have new (separate) albums, out now!
