Or maybe it's already been released. Not sure. Haven't looked. Might need one. :D

No back and forward buttons.

No matter to me. :p

I occasionally assign grenades or something mundane like that to those buttons, but nothing I actually care about. I never use them in a browser context.

I use the back button for crouch, and the forward button for prone if applicable.

I can barely surf without those buttons, my work mouse doesnt have them, and I am constantly pushing the side of it all day.

I occasionally use the buttons. The thing is though, I like the feel of the smaller (mid-range) optical mouse better than the big lumpy ones. (I'd probably like the big lumpy ones if they actually fit my hands properly, but the lumps are designed for smaller hands it seems. (With the smaller mouse, my hand sits flatter, so the size doesn't matter as much.)) So, the problem there, is that one of the buttons is on the right-hand side of the mouse, which sucks, so I never use it. I do use the left-hand button quite a bit, but never for anything important. I usually use the left and right standard buttons for shooting (if no alt fire, the right button becomes zoom or some other often used feature) the wheel button for reload, and then everything else goes on the keys. This new laser mouse has one side button, so for me, it's exactly the same. It looks like one of the bigger lumpier mice though, so it may not feel quite right for me. I have one of the newer cordless ones at work, and it feels pretty good, but still not quite right for my hands. Feel aside, I think I'd rather have the accuracy than one extra button though, so I may pick it up.

There's a Logitech laser mouse full of buttons and laser accuracy. It does have a someone's idea of ergonomic design which is a bit wacky, but overall I like me some of it. It even has the slightly annoying, mousewheel can click right and left as well as down feature.

Yes, this cordless mouse at my work has the right-left wheel thing too. Can't tell if I like it or not, but then, I couldn't tell if I liked the mouse wheel at first either, but now I can't use a mouse without one. (Still don't really care much about the side buttons though.) Fucking bald-faced ergonomical bastards! They try so hard to make something ergonomic, but it only works if it fits your hand.

Funny to think about the days before even the mouse wheel.

You know, I think I was playing Quake 2 and Unreal with a Sidewinder Gamepad back then. :D I was pretty good with it too. I'm sure Ken rued the day he made me try out the mouse. (which was shortly before the wheel mouse started showing up) I believe I got my Intellimouse Explorer with Intelli-Eye Sensor TM right before Quake 3 and UT99 came out.
