That $44 mod chip is, without a doubt, the best $44 investment I've ever made. Here are the XSpecs:

Image

Dashboard: Evo-X 2.0
HDD: Maxtor 120GB 7200RPM (68GB remaining)
XBox Games (Stored on HDD): 28
Emulators:
- Nintendo (Nester-X)
- SNES (XSNES)
- Gameboy (gnuboy)
- GBA (gbax)
- Genesis (dgen)
- Atari 2600 (Stella)
- C64 (DC64-X)
- Colecovision (koleko-x)
- Intellivision (Bliss)
- Playstation (pcsxbox)
- Mame (Mame-x v0.66b)
Homebrew:
- Dongle-free region-free DVD Player
- XBMP 2.4 (Turns your xbox into a full streaming media station)
- XBCopy
- Boxplorer
Red Power LED
Grey XBox skin (ok, maybe I'm taking this a bit too far)

If you dont have a cartoon box with a tv-out card, this is a great way to play theses classics on an old fassion low-res television set, like they were meant to be played.

Ahh yes! Another convert!

THANK THE HIGH HEAVENS ABOVE FOR THE MODIFIED XBOX!!

I can't post my exact stats right now because my xbox is packed in my suitcase and will soon be on an airplane...but I can tell you:

Executer2
Evo-X
WD 120GB - less than 2GBs free
about 20-30 xbox games on the HDD
XBMP latest build (well from a week or so ago when my nntp got shut off)
All DivX Adult Swim episodes in our collective collection
Many feature length movies
All them damn EMUs - but I really only play XsnesX and occasionally MAMEX. BTW - what NES emu are you guyz usin these days? State saving yet?
Super Home Brew Gaming Console - Quake 2, Duke Nukem 3D, Rise of the Triad, Doom, more... Quake 2 is awesome - beautiful and exactly like the PC...but um...like I really want to play Q2 with a gamepad.
Every other piece of SW worth running.
Future plans: Executer 2.1, USB dongle, switch, maybe a nifty LED (I like the one in the pic).

...oh and I am gonna put the whole thing in a Millenium Falcon model. :D

I think...

... I'm going to leave my X-Box as is. I'm going to build a tiny little PC. I'm going to get a VIA 10000M with DDR. Reason being, I can build a box 1/3 the size of the X-Box, and I can make it amazingly quiet. The X-Box is so loud it's ridiculous. It sounds like a frickin' overclocker's 13 fan system with 15000 RPM scsi drives or something. (OK so maybe not that bad, but pretty frickin' bad.) I think the cool thing to do would be to buy a large flat panel, build a tiny little VIA box that would attach to the back of it, and have the "MediaPanel TM" :D Perhaps I should present the MediaPanel TM to themediaexperience.

... monkey-boy, and we're goin' round and round. :D

HEE HEE, I actually would like to mod mine too, just for media playing ability. All I use it for is DVD playback anyway, I just decided that I really don't like console gaming anymore. Sure I'll buy Soul Caliber 2, but I'm not really into fighting games anymore either. I've turned into a PC Purist, because I can't stand any other methods of control. (In a general sense, obviously there is a miniscule amount of potted meat food product that is better controlled with a pad.) So order a refurbed XBOX from www.ebgames.com They're cheap, and not any different than a new one since they get their gutz replaced. Mine rocks steady, steady rockin' all night long. Word to the Woo Woooooooo!!!!! Trippin' tha flows since 1977. Peace.

xecuter 2.1 lite - but I don't know about this whole "legal BIOS" thing. I have the BIOS you want but have yet to flash a mod chip.

oh let me tell you the flash is awesome...

I tried to flash garretts xbox, it died. He has been very patient with me, considering he has been without an xbox for almost a month.

He has a matrix chip though, and now unfortunatly I have a matrix chip too.

I wanted an executor 2.1 lite, but i had to buy another matrix, to fix garretts matrix.

you can only buy matrix mods from one place, and they have been backordered for weeks. It finally mailed yesterday.

I was looking for a simple guide to enhance my newly acquired Xbox and saw an article on this new release; any of you guys seen this book:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/de ... ce&s=books

Or would you just recommend using the links above? Thanks in advance for any advice.

BTW, I learned about the book from this NY Times article about Microsoft's reaction to all of the Xbox hackers flourishing:
http://www.nytimes.com/2003/07/10/techn ... 0xbox.html

That book is written by this guy: http://www.xenatera.com/bunnie/proj/anatak/xboxmod.html and if it written anything like his web page I think it would probably be pretty boring. You would have to get into some real tehnical stuff to write a whole book, but it may be interesting. I would imagine it is more of an interesting study of reverse engineering than a how to guide...but I haven't actually seen it.

I cannot recommend enough if you want to hack your xbox, then go to http://xbox-scene.com . It is the best site around. Just spend the time you would reading the book on the tutorials on that site and save the $24.99 to buy you two beers at What The Dickens in Ebisu. :D

I'm soldering my fingers together right now

Ender: yeah, I checked around the xboxscene website tutorial section after posting my question. Looks like it's the real deal Holyfield.

If you swing by and help with the soldering, I'll use my new-found savings to give you one of those pints! Pretty good deal, huh?

(note: all airfare costs to be borne by you)

ps BTW, they serve Red Hook at the Pink Cow in Harajuku too...
