Admiral McNevin's Injury Report.

On Sunday evening i was skateboarding, in a parking garage. I was rounding a corner, just as one of the new kids bailed in front of me. I was passing thorough a car width channel which left me little room to maneuver. The kid gets up and skates across the opening to the channel. I yell "don’t skate in front of me," but it was no good. My wheel hit his foot, and i was airborne, sideways, and i came down directly on my hip.

Hours later, i decided that my pain was worth the 650$ deductible for the ER. I was x-rayed, and examined. I had a fracture to the trocantur, or head of the femur.

The pain was about 2/10 when stationary, but when i moved in a way where the muscles tugged on the fracture it was surely 11/10.

The next day i saw my specialist, she was great. She gave me a month off work, and percoset for the pain. She also noticed a 2nd fracture, and scheduled me for an MRI.

At this point I still haven’t been home; I had been staying with a friend. This friend I now owe a wookie life debt, i couldn’t have done it without him and his girlfriend. This experience has really shown me who my friends are down here. I'm reminded of a quote: friends help you move, real friends help you move bodies. So yeah, i made some Seattle caliber friends down here.

I had the MRI, but still no word. Hopefully Monday.

So today I'm back at home, after a week of camping out at my friend’s house. I had a lot of fun over there; it’s nice to be home, but kind of lonely...

To be continued…

I can relate on several levels here...although I've yet to experience 11/10 pain level...Never broke anything below the waist and that can take longer to heal since legs are always bearing weight. I don't have much to say in terms of advice - it just sucks to have teh broken boenz. Oh, wait maybe I do have some good advice: 1) always take percocet with alcohol. 2) drink plenty of alcohol 3) ask yourself the question "Am I drinking enough alcohol?" 4) Make ABSOLUTELY sure you are drinking enough alcohol.

Acutally acetaminophen is really bad to combine with alcohol so better to get straight oxycodone.

They also say that ye olde smokarz are horrible at healing zie boenz and can take up to twice as long as a normal person - so for something of the caliber of a nice femur fracture for teh normal person 6-8+ weekz but for teh smokar 12-16+? actually it's probably longer since it is teh leg...crazy...well...just have to see...so cuts0r teh smoks0r outs0r and speed zie healing process...Also calcium supplements did absolutely nothing for me - you'd be better off just eating lots of pizza with extra cheese.

What else...oh yeah - once you reach the final bone fusion point, probably after 12 weeks in this case, I've found it's best to do things that put stress on the fracture even though it's going to be quite painful but not doing so will actually make it take longer to fully recover - i.e. hinder the healing process. I've fractured my right clavicle four times and the third time I totally babied it and it took 8 months before I didn't have any pain...the last time I was bench pressing 6 weeks after I broke it and it hurt horribly bad but only took 3 months before the pain was only a slight reminder of what happened.

Ok ...good enough for nizzow...

Dyamn man, that is definitely teh suX0r. Good that the pain is minor when not bearing weight though. What exactly do you mean by a month off of work? Do you get paid? That would be pretty damn incredible.

Where is the pain? Up near your hip? That seems like a bad place. When my ankle exploded it was somewhat easy to deal with because of the injury at the extremity. Is it difficult to sit? You need to build yourself a puting station. Remember the foo's notebook-living room lounge setup? I wish I could be there to help you out bud.

My main advice is to take full advantage of all the physical therapy your insurance affords you. I found the 6-8 week level of PT quite useful (low-resistance) but then after about 3-4 weeks of that it was redundant. I really wish that I could have had another round of intesive 3-4 days/week PT around the 5 month after period. But also my injury was in a joint so if yours is purely bone breakage it may be easier to recover full motion.

Keep us updated on what teh doctors and thir funny magnet machines tell you.

The pain is very tolerable now. 1/10 while immobile and 5/10 on pain max.

The pain is in my hip, and ass. What a pain in my ass! The lower ass pain is barely felt, but sitting on it is what causes it. I assume that is the lower fracture.

The lame part of the other fracture is that there is some sort of powerful muscle/tendon attached to it. When I move wrong, in a way that causes pain, the muscles react by tightening, which actually causes more pain. The most pain I’ve ever felt.

Thankfully that’s not the case anymore, it seems to be healing.

So i got the MRI results. Lets say they are not good, but not super bad either. I most likely don't need surgery, but I cant put any weight on the leg for 6 weeks.

If the MRI results had have been good, i would have been able to try and walk again in a week, but unfortunatly that wasn't the case.

I don't know about rhymes, but I've got mad hits like I was Rod Carew.

Well as long as you have mad hits, then I suppose there isn't a problem.

My skull lets me know when it's going to rain. That's more of an atmospheric pressure thing, but when my brain starts lightly pusing on my skull, then I know it's about to rain. I don't have any bone or joint indicators though.
