From a few weeks agos endmail:
AIC Returns...Maybe. The surviving members of Alice In Chains are reportedly investigating ways in which they can play together again on a regular basis, according to the Los Angeles Times. The band had been inactive since 1996 and its demise seemed certain with the 2002 death of singer Layne Staley from a drug overdose. But guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney reunited in February at a benefit for Indonesian tsunami victims, and are now said to be looking for a way to take that to the next level.
Cantrell, who has worked as a solo artist and also leads the "covers" band Cardboard Vampyres, says that nothing equals the feeling of playing with his original bandmates: "There's a certain, certain chemistry that you really can't put your finger on, but when you put the certain ingredients in a bowl and mix it up, you know, and light the fuse, it's so much more powerful than the individual parts that make up the whole."
Alice In Chains co-manager Bill Siddons told the Times, "We'd love to find a way to let these guys perform together and have the fun they had and honor and respect what they created in the past, as well as Layne's contributions."
Siddons added that there would not be a reality show-type search for a new singer, as INXS has recently done with its Rock Star program. He said that the band would perhaps use guest singers, as it did at the February show, and play benefits instead of paid gigs.
