Forza Motorsport

Picked this up a few days ago and can't seem to put it down. Definitely one of the best all around simu-racers. evar. I own gran turismo 4 and I would rate forza as a better game overall. it beats out gt4 in graphics (which was a high bar to begin with), and fun-factor which I think gt4 lacks a bit of. The graphics are so good, they're worth a second mention. Everything is smoothly anti-aliased and runs solidly at 60fps. Trees are made of actual geometry. Lens effects like blur and field of depth are implemented fantastically. Engine sounds are awesome (almost every performance upggrade you make to a car yields a noticeable change in the exhaust note. The polygon-saturated car models are smooth and accurate, and there's real-time body damage!!! wooot! anywho... there's too many good points about it... its the best racer out on the xbox hands down, making it a must-have title. highly recommend it..

Ahh, graphical features that PC racers have been enjoying since 1999
Actually, I've been looking for a good racer, but I haven't checked into them lately. If there's a PC version of that, perhaps I'll check it out. I just got TrackMania Sunrise (which is like Stunts, Stunt Car Racer, etc.) You can build your own crazy tracks, etc. One problem, nobody seems to have released a crack for it yet, so it's sitting installed on my PC, but I can't play it yet.
I think the perfect racing game would be Need for Speed: Porsche Unleashed on the Underground 2 engine. Of course that's not really a simulator style racer, but I'm more into the arcade style anyway.
I grabbed up Colin McRae 2005, but it's kinda flakey. It doesn't keep controller configs properly, and it crashes once in a while. The graphics are nice, the controls are good once you get them set up (EVERY TIME YOU LOAD THE GAME
)

Why is it that need for speed seems to be stuck in the "Fast and the Furious" will it ever return from its urban streetracing metamorphosis?
I'm downloading Most Wanted right now, and I hope its somewhat back to classic Need for Speed. It is supposed to cater to the tuner, have the cop chase mode, and have exotics. Sounds like a mixture of both, well guess we will find out.

It is indeed a mixture of both. It's kinda like Underground during the day, but with slightly more varied scenery. They haven't released one as good as Porsche Unleashed since. That game had tons of cool tracks, TONS of NICE cars, a good feel, and it was like actually taking one's Porsche out to the countryside and whipping it around. Something I tend to enjoy myself. So far, none of the NFS games since have captured that feeling. I wish it was easier to get Porsche Unleashed to work in XP. There are some fixes for it, but the last time I tried, I couldn't get it to work. It works on my dad's system under XP. Bleh. I suppose Hot Pursuit 2 was ok as well, but still not quite as good. Hmm, actually, I think I'm going to go track that one down, because it has DX8 level graphics, which are good enough for a racing game (generally,) and it probably runs as fast as NFS2 used to run on a Voodoo2 these days.
After a bit of tweaking I got Most Wanted running VERY fast in 1280. They went totally overboard with the road reflections (trying to jump on the HDR and bloom bandwagon I suppose,) so if you turn this setting down a notch or two, the game looks WAY better, and runs twice as fast. It was just a bit silly to have the road look like it was wet, even when it wasn't. I like the way the road looked on Rallisport. Just the right amount of shine on the hot pavement, ice, etc. They need to stop using features just to use them, even if they don't fit the context of the game.

I really like NFSMW now. I've been playing through the story mode, and earning cars. I have a VERY nice Clio now, and a Lancer that's getting there. I have a profile to play the game normally, and a cheated one with everything available. It's nice to take a fully modded Carerra GT2 around the city. Admiral, I think you're going to want to get that SLI setup working for this game.

I'd probably skip right over it unless it was the best car in a tier, and I needed it to earn the next tier. (or something like that)
I'd say I would only be interested in driving about 1/4 to 1/3 of that list. (in game or out)
I really only like cars that are made out of metal, have either rear or all wheel drive, and generally only ones that come from Western Europe. (though to be fair, there are a couple of Japanese cars that I wouldn't mind driving, and one American car.)

I agree about the RWD comment, but it is a pretty damn extensive list for in game sim - just look at Nissan. Hope the gameplay lives up to it.

Oh, the list is nice. The game looks incredibly nice. Maybe now that they're doing the whole Games for Windows thing, they'll do a port for the PC. I have no intention of owning another console this gen. One thing that I've been noticing about racing games lately, is that they're putting insane details into the cars, but then slacking on the scenery. I'd much rather see more details in the environments. I drive bumper-cam only (unless I'm playing Outrun 2006) so I don't really see the cars as much anyway. (unless I catch a quick glimpse while passing another one)
