Peer Guardian making my damn computer noisy

It seems that recently when I have multiple torrents dloading Peer Guardian CPU usage blows through the roof. It hovers right around 50% which causes my fan to jump up to annoying level 7 even though my case is off. What are other PG users usages like (I have 5 dloads going and 12 finished files ready to upload). And what the hell is up with the stock Prescott fan? Does this damn thing have to be so annoying?

go for a zalman fan. They're pricey but top-notch in quality and quiet-ness.

I just discovered Peer guardian lite
it is built with pg 2.0 technology, and has cpu utilization of 0%
You have to manually insert the blockfile, and there is no way of seeing whats being blocked, but you can turn off http blocking which is nice.

Interesting... network software that pegs the CPU meter. I'm not sure what to think about that. Oh well, that's why I don't bother with P2P stuff.
3nder: Zalmans are VERY nice. I've been using them for years. I don't have one on my AMD64 chip though. Just the stock cooler, which, much like yours is rather annoying. It runs at a constant speed, but it just happens to be at a pitch that's annoying to the ears. I replaced my exhaust fan with a 92mm Zalman, so at least the case itself is quiet, but the CPU cooler has got to go as soon as I can get a nicer one.

Awesome! I got PG Lite installed and it totally fixed it. 0-1% CPU utilization.
Here's a
good thread about teh PG Lite.
I do plan to get a new CPU fan but I haven't quite gotten around to it yet.

Here's the one I had on my P4:

It was quite nice. There's one just like it that's all copper. Not sure which is better. I didn't look at the specs, but I do know that Alluminum and Copper both have different rates of both heat absorbtion AND heat dissipation, so the one with both types of metal might be better in some ways. Not entirely sure. They list the all copper one first though, so that may be their "high end" It cetainly looks cool. The combination of that cooler, and AS5 compound dropped my temp 15-20 degrees from stock cooling, and it was a LOT quieter. I need to get another one.
